"(Editor’s note: From Ace Attorney to Xenogears, everyone’s got at least one videogame tune stuck in their heads. Enter Liner Notes: a Pixelitis feature in which our writers discuss their favorite videogame music.)
Let’s talk about the awesome combination of game music cover bands and heavy metal.
One of the fantastic things about videogame music is that the styles and possibilities within the genre are endless. Us VGM audiophiles bathe in a co-culture in which a classical, choir-oriented tune like this can still be lumped in the same category as its Mega Ran-covered, hip-hop conversion.
Next to assembling expansive orchestras to perform renditions of our favorite videogame music in classical arrangements, forming a heavy metal cover band is also one of the most beloved ways of interpreting everything from Actraiser to Zelda II."

Other nominees include games like SimCity & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
There are some good nominees in this list that are deserving to be inducted also, but I feel Metroid has had the most impact on the industry out of all of these. Look how Metroid influenced the evolution of the Castlevania games, and the "Metroidvania" subgenre of games have become a prevailing force in gaming today. Especially now, Metroidvanias are bigger than ever.
I can very much see Resident Evil being added later too, bc it really did popularize and define the survival horror genre. I would say that one is next in line.
If any Metroid game should get the honor it should be Super Metroid , it's perfection in my eyes . 30 years later and I still feel it's the most epic shit ever .
The GBA remake deserves it or Super Metroid, the original was a very sloppy and rushed game programmed in 3 months and it shows.
If you've never played the remake, it's absolutely a must play, fixes basically every flaw in the game. Check out ExoParadigmGamer's comparison video.
The composer and singer discuss the collaboration and research that went into the ballad and capturing Aerith’s singing voice.
He provided the main theme for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Fantasian needs to release on consoles, please. I'll probably never play it if it remains an Apple Arcade exclusive. I don't use Apple products, and certainly wouldn't buy one just for a single game. Mistwalker has always had odd exclusivity choices.
Uematsu is legend though, and the music was one of the big reasons I fell in love w Final Fantasy a few decades ago. I hope his health has improved, and he can exit his career on something more notable.
**While we're at it, and Microsoft is more open to sharing things cross platform now, I hope they'll allow Mistwalker to release Remasters of both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon!
Which is fine. He's already a legend and can take a break if he desires. Let new talents dabble.
That sucks, but I will admit that the composers handling FF7 Remake really do his masterpieces justice.
This is so sad. Uematsu made my childhood and teen years with FF4 to FF10. At one point he even worked while quite ill from a hospital bed.
My favorite composer next to Yasunori Mitsuda. Akira Tsuchiya Is another one of my favorites I love the music in Ar Tonelico and the vocals of Akiko Shikata. Such great talent that have brought some great games to life.
