Battlefield 4 head dismisses motion control as a ‘gimmick’

Edge: Motion control is a ‘gimmick’ that won’t be implemented in Battlefield 4 because it adds nothing to the game, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has said. (Battlefield 4, EA, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

The title is misleading.

Here's the quote:

To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”"

So Bach isn't dismissing it at all; he's just stating that if the tech operates as nothing more than a gimmick, they won't use it.

I agree Motion control is good for many types of games but not for something ultra competitive as Battlefield.

Get shot in the face and Tea Bagged wasting time flapping your arms hoping the sensor picks up the movement, translates it, executes, and implements on screen action.

NO TIME FOR THAT when the crap is hitting the fan, the alarm is sounding and you got NO FLAGS LOL.

I would never in a million years play a Battlefield game with motion controls. Ever.

@aiBreeze

Talking about nerds while reading a website with news specifically dedicated to video games and tech. Wut?

O hey Ser you got me.. I read n4g which instantly makes me a huge 500lb nerd with no life who hasn't seen his dick since he was 10 years old /s

Tbh teabagging is for nerds.. and with kinect it would give those nerds exercise

@ Ser I probably would with the move. With Kinect, Never Even though it works for me I would not enjoy that.

" Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it."

Sounds like this guy is waiting on everybody else to incorporate motion controls well before giving into it, yet he speaks of trying to stay innovative?!
I find that the PS move controller added a lot more fun to killzone 3! GG did a great job with it which is why I was hoping other FPS games incorporated move as well, but unfortunately it's still a "gimmick" cause not enough dev. studios are doing it right...

Agree 1 million percent. My Kinect, which came with my Xbox, holds up my ottoman quite nicely. So I have to give thanks to M$ for that.

Motion controls don't belong in a FPS but light guns do.
Shadonic  +   833d ago
They just have to apply it to games where it can be used to the highest of its abilities. I remember the guy who did that hack for Kinect where he played bullet-storm and skyrim on the PC. It worked but it just didn't fit it save for the dragon shouts and pulling the bow to fir was kind of cool.

I think you people need to understand that motion controls in the form of the wiimote work fantastic as a gun on COD! point shoot! with a gun casing around the mote and nunchuck you have a oerfect gun! works amazing on blops 2 wii u! since when really has shooting guns been about twidling knobs?

So the best arcade shooters had guns!

Why not consoles? I remember time crisis with the gun attachment on ps2 worked great also but with a cable as motion controls had not been invented then!

they do work and work well just speak to the nintendo community and the many great players who love motion controls on COD.
