In a nutshell yes, I was fine with not really having it this generation (my first ps3 died and my new didn't have it)

But I dont really have the space to set up my ps2 to play ps1 and 2 games and then my ps3 and then ps4 with my n64 and gamecube.

Having backwards compatibility will always be a plus.

If they are doing this gaikai thing for backwards compatibility then I hope that you can play any game yoou own without having to purchase it again.

Its a nice extra for sure but it does drive up costs, i honestly have not used bc at all this gen or the gen before, im keeping my gears 360 and my red slim, so it wont be a problem for me, can see why people want it though
