April 14th - When Freemium Attacks

The United Kingdom’s Office of Free Trading has launched an investigation into in-app purchases that target children. Apparently the story of a a 5 year-old British boy who charged up something close to a thousand pounds and an Irish rug rat who ran up a 1700 pound bill within days of one another has become quite the news sensation across the pond.

Meanwhile, at roughly the same time Apple, apparently to head-off a class action law suit over precisely the same issue, has begun labeling their freemium titles with a notice that the games come with IAPs. You can read a more detailed account here. (Android, Casual games, Dev, EA, Godsrule: War of Mortals, Industry, iPad, iPhone, Jeff Minter, llamasoft, Mobile, Real Racing 3, Tech)
