What Percentage Of PS4 Hype Is Due To Generation Fatigue?

Everyone seems to be psyched for the PlayStation 4, but is a lot of that excitement simply due to the fact that this generation is of a historic length? (PS4)

This article doesn't make sense. Of course people will be excited for a new generation of consoles, it doesn't matter how long it has been since the last ones came out. Whether it's been 1 year or 10 years. People will be excited to see the next new thing on the horizon. So in a way, of course it's because of how long the generation has lasted. That's like asking if water will turn to ice if left in freezing temperatures too long lol.

Here's something else that doesn't make sense-

Implying that everyone would be equally excited for something new 1 year after the most recent installment arrived, as opposed to 10 years.

There are also other considerations, such as the length of the generation contributing to larger libraries and larger backlogs for gamers, which may ultimately dissuade them from leaping into the next generation immediately. This counts even more when we know the PS4 won't be backwards compatible.

Price is also an issue. If people just shelled out for a console a year or two ago, they're very likely not going to be all that excited about needing to do it again.

But hey, it's good to see the standard IQ level of N4G posters remains at the bottom of the Internet barrel.

A man does think that there is a hankering for next gen even more because this gen has lasted a year or 2 longer than usual. PS1=1994, PS2=2000, PS3=2006, PS4=2013. 7 years vs 6 for the rest. Xbox=2001, 360=2005, 720=2013. 8 years vs. 4 last time. NES=1986, SNES=1992, N64=1996, GC=2001, Wii=2006. Not since NES to SNES had they waited this long and since it wasn't a jump graphically from PS360 many didn't get as excited as when they saw what PS4 could do.

Wont be able to judge what the ps4 can do until the end of its life cycle. Early 360 titles werent all that more impressive than ps2/xbox titles.

this is true. I don't see how 1080p 60fps couldn't be possible when some PS3 games ran at it with the difficult cell and decade old graphics card.
