Samsung Galaxy S4 Will Help GameStop Grow Its Used Mobile Electronics Sales

As the vice president of video game retailer GameStop’s mobile business, Joe Gorman has overseen the burgeoning electronics trade-in business as well as the sales of gaming tablets. Thanks in part to the wave of trade-ins that will flood the market as the Samsung Galaxy S4 launches later this month, there’s going to be a huge opportunity for retailers to cash in on the $1.6 billion pre-owned mobile electronics device market. With GameStop expanding their trade-in offerings and now selling phones and mobile plans to lure more consumers into its stores, Gorman talks about the opportunities the fast-evolving mobile gaming business is opening up in this exclusive interview.

The story is too old to be commented.

Now that Gamestop is selling phones and calling plans it's competing more with Best Buy.

I've been kind of an iPhone slave for a while but the S4 looks great. Can anyone give me a good personal opinion on it?

From what I've seen of it, the S4 looks like a MORE than decent upgrade if your coming from an iPhone. I'm getting the HTC One next week personally. Thats been getting a lot of rave reviews.

Apparently, the next iPhone I'll be able to scan your fingerprint and face to unlock your phone.

If you really want a new phone right now, I'd recommend the HTC One. If not, then wait a month to try out the S4 and HTC One simultaneously in stores.

I bought a iPod Touch 2 a long time ago, about a year later the iPhone 3 came out and a newer firmware was released, this newer firmware was not made for older iDevices and therefore everything ran poorly, I downgraded just to find out that any new apps were not compatible with older firmwares because the devs just make stuff for the current specs (and they're compiled differently or something weird). Making it a useless piece of junk, since none of my apps worked unless I wanted a glitchfest.

I bought a Samsung S2 and I love it.

Apps are developed for the lowest amount of power they can possibly be and I don't think I've seen any that don't work on older firmwares, except for some HD games I believe.

Also you've got to love this gorilla glass, my uncle goes through iPhones like hotcakes, it's to easy to break the screen.

Anywhoo, you can expect your Android device to actually last a while compared to any iDevice.

I want to go with a Sony phone next though honestly.

If you can find a Sony phone with the same specs as a Samsung S4 or better I'd go with that.

Hmm better hardware in every aspect practically from cameras to power, better components, the chipsets apple uses in their phones are even built and made by Samsung. I could go on, there is really no other reason to own an iPhone unless you just absolutely need iOS, prefer it for some reason or just prefer to be seen with an iPhone as a type of fashion statement or to be apart of some trend.

Other than that technically it is far from the best phone to be around anymore and I don't think apple will be catching up anytime soon hardware wise.

They are great phones don't get me wrong but now there are way better out there more than just the GS4.

I used to need iOS, until everything I needed was released on Android.

The only thing I can say about iPhone that have an advantage over Android is that they are better for making music, which is funny because their phones are just like their computers. They aren't really good for anything else other than multimedia based stuff like music production, video editing, picture editing ect.

I prefer android phones for the freedom that's afforded to them. Yes iphone is good for its various reasons. But I feel restricted in with an iphone. I can download movies with no problem. I can adjust my settings internally for optimum performance. With android phones, you get more of a "PC-styled" phone.

And truthfully, I think it was quite poor of apple to wait so long to bring about upgrades for their iphones that were already happening on other smartphones.

GameStop is become a pawn shop for all things electronic. Curious to see how they'll benefit from this transition now nex-gen consoles are moving to digital downloads.
