Dark Souls 2 - New Engine, Runs At 60fps On PC, 30fps On Console No Drops

OnlySP - "Great news for Dark Souls PC fans awaiting the sequel. A number of foreign language sites are reporting that Dark Souls 2 is being developed on an entirely new engine with PC as the lead platform. As a result, Dark Souls 2 will allegedly run at 60fps on PC. The gameplay footage that was released the other day was also running on PC, and it looked fantastic, which is very promising." (Dark Souls 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Yay now I don't need to install mods to run the game smoothly. Wait PC as lead platform? I hope that means they found success with Dark Souls on PC.

if it's pc lead platform
Does that mean that we might see Dark Souls 2 with 60fps in the next gen too ? oh god please make it true!

they confirmed dark souls sold 300k copies on PC alone, which is three times the petition, that was enough to get ds2 on pc as lead platform.

such a bad port but still sold those numbers a year after release on consoles. dark souls 2 could be a million seller if they do it right

It probably is.

"Whereas the PC version of Dark Souls came out months after the console versions, Dark Souls 2 will launch simultaneously on all platforms. The hands-off demo of Dark Souls 2 that we saw was also running on PC hardware, as well."

Wow really? i was hoping it was a console version to be honest the game look like shit some times, here hoping for mods...

its easier to develop for pc then reduce the texture quality, rendering distance and other stuff so that it runs on console then port it over. after all, games are developed on pc's for consoles. if you are making a game for the pc aswell it only makes sense to make the pc the lead platform then refine it to consoles rather than make a console the lead platform then having to redo all the textures in higher res all over again. the petition was really successful this is really good news.

They'll just find something new to whine about...

Other than the mere existence of consoles? Didn't know they complain about anything else.
Welcome2Die  +   535d ago
PC gamers were complaining about the resolution of the game after it had been ported. After that they complained about the difficulty of the game to the point where the developers contemplated adding an easy mode to the game.

Ah, so the gameplay video was running on PC, which is the lead platform. Well that explains the graphical jump.

I noticed that the demo had plenty of SSAO just about everywhere and there was a lot and pretty good dynamic shadows once he entered the chamber w/ the torch.

Had a hunch it was PC.

Great to see more developers branching out to the PC.

hope it runs 60fps on next gen. I feel fps is important on dark souls. Really all games should aim for 60fps on next gen consoles locked then worry about graphics after

Cant believe that just a year ago we pc gamers begging for a dark souls pc port and now we have dark souls 2 coming with pc as the lead platform :)...these are good times

That's the power the PC Gamer has!

Devs tend to pay attention to us!

60fps on PC? I hope they don't lock it and actually have some decent settings options this time around.

ign gameplay play was 360 version but the trailers released later was pc version u can see difference by comparing it...

The article says otherwise and links to the 12 min. ign interview.

What turned me away from dark souls on the PS3 were the frame rate drops which can be horrendous at times. Thankfully the new engine will provide a smoother experience on consoles. However I wouldn't mind a port of this game on the PS4 with much better frame rate and higher resolution graphics.

Its sad that Wii U owners will have to miss out on a fantastic franchise.

It is the same on PC, even when you are at 60fps most of the time the game decides to nose dive and you hit 20 then fly back up. I hope the new engine fixed this.

I'd rather have the new project from Miyazaki on the PS4. Dark Souls 3 could continue on the next-gen consoles though. DS2 can stay current-gen for me.
Tei777  +   536d ago
They really hope they announce a next gen version. I really do not want to be going to sloppy framerates and horrible textures once I get my PS4 this fall.

For a second there I thought you were describing Killzone Shadow fall

I'll wait for nextgen edition.
Brucis  +   536d ago
There isn't one. It's releasing on 360, PS3, and PC. They thought about it but said that it would make gamers wait too long for the game to be released. They might do it later down the road, but there are no plans currently.

Glad to hear performance was among one of the things improved upon for consoles. Wasn't much of an issue except for a couple areas, then it became an eyesore(literally)

never heard of this game, might check out the original
Lone_Man  +   536d ago
where are you from man..?
Salooh  +   535d ago
You must. You will be shocked of how good this game is since you don't know about it, It's really challenging. Or you will break the disk if you are sucks..

I love when i see an old good game without knowing it exist . It doesn't happen to me a lot because i know most of the games.

and the resolution?
DivineAssault  +   535d ago
they need to make this a dual gen release so the new consoles get 60fps too.. But at least theres no dips on consoles this time.. It slowed down a lot in the last one

This is great news for Darks Souls fans, glad to see From Software actually care enough unlike some other devs who shall remain nameless.
