Immersion in video games: The thrill of competing

Mastering the specific strategies and skills of the game you are playing and using that as a tool to control other players is another element that can create immersion. Competing is embedded into the heart of gaming. It’s why most of us play games. Whether we compete against other players, AI, or simply want to solve a puzzle, “beating the game” drives us to immerse ourselves in it.

MWEB GameZone takes a look at the immersive quality competing brings to video games.

The story is too old to be commented.

Competing, sure, against others - of course, but I like to look at it from a personal challenge, even if I'm not very good at either...

I'm not a competitive person at all. I'm more interested in getting to the end of a story than 'beating' a game. As soon as something starts getting competitive elements, I completely lose interest.
