The Nintendo Wii U: six months on

CityAM says:

Nintendo’s new console is struggling. We ask what went wrong and whether it can turn things around.

AS Nintendo’s new console, the tablet-controlled Wii U, approaches its six month anniversary, things are not looking great for the Japanese games giant.

Sales, while not disastrous, are almost certain to fall some way below Nintendo’s original forecast of 5.5m units by the end of last month.

The story is too old to be commented.

the day Nintendo decided to put out such a mediocre next gen console was the day they doomed themselves.

Ps4 & Next-gen Xbox are the future. Sorry Nintendo

dark-hollow1588d ago

same thing has been said to gamecube, ds, wii, 3ds and now the wiiu.

how can we predict the console future from only less than a year since launch?

mudmax1588d ago (Edited 1588d ago )

Golding89 you have no clue.

mudmax1588d ago (Edited 1588d ago )

Oh yeah? wait till the other two launch and let see if they can even match the wiiu's sales. I don't think so but we'll see what happens.Being it has outsold the 360's launch. So that was a failed launch too right. If it is so mediocre then how come developers actually working with it tend to disagree. Do you fanboys only believe what each other say, or do you only read what each other write. Just wondering. P.S. rumor has it that 1 broadway core destroys a jaguar core that's why they are putting 8 in there.

same story as Wii vs PS3 and 360? the Nintendo console will do just fine :)

MadMen1588d ago (Edited 1588d ago )

WiiU is a failure, in comparison to the Wii. period.

Get over it.

darthv721588d ago

would you say the same for the SNES? It sold nearly 50mil in its lifetime where as the NES sold 60mil.
I guess that makes the SNES a failure as well.

Wii-u is a better product than the wii just like the snes was a better product than the nes. PS3 is a better product than the ps2 so if you are doing the comparison like you are then ps3 is also a failure.

Sales usually gauge popularity not quality.

golding891588d ago

@mudmax sorry mud. You guys can be in denial all you want, but the bottom line is the WiiU didn't come out of the gate with huge sales as did the Wii.

You think once PS4 and Next-gen Xbox comes out, it will help the WiiU sales even more?

Yea ok, I guess I have no glue.

Good day guys.

konnerbllb1588d ago

"Yea ok, I guess I have no glue. "

If you're out of glue you can find more at your local supermarket.

the ps4 and 720 will struggle a bit when they get released?

consumer confidence in electronic devices has slowed and/or shifted to other electronic devices. To think the next release is an automatic win is very mistaken not unless its an apple or samsung product. Those seem to increase in popularity with each release.

But like i said above, sales are generally indicative of popularity not quality. Word of mouth, and people wanting to be part of the trendy crowd is what made the wii a success and in some ways...even the ipod.

I mean, before (and after) the ipod there were media players that were made better and had less restrictions. But only the diehard people that really knew about such things went with other brands where everyone else went the ipod route because it was the thing to do to be like everyone else.

mudmax1588d ago (Edited 1588d ago )

Where did you read that, because that's definetly not what I said. You can by glue anywhere and its cheap too. No, you my friends are in denial about the wiiu. Just admit it. Nintendo has given us what we've wanted and you all are just looking for other things to complain about now because every game on the face of the planet hasn't been announced for it.If your not a supporter of Nintendo, then why come here and bash them about things your clueless on. I mean just don't buy. Know one is gonna not buy it because of the things you guys say on here. You might as well bash santa for not getting that one toy you wanted back in 1998.
