Guacamelee! Interview!

Guacamelee, for those who haven’t heard of the game, is an upcoming “Metroidvania brawler” for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. We recently asked Chris McQuinn at Drinkbox Studios a few questions about this stunning game. (DrinkBox Studios, Guacamelee, PS Vita, PS3)

I'm playing this game right at this moment. It just oozes style, from the art to the music and writing, which I expected after Mutant Blobs. The Mexican theme and emphasis on the world of the dead is really a breath of fresh air, too (if not rather similar to the excellent Outland, mechanics-wise).

I just wish they didn't stuff the game so full of retarded Reddit memes and other internet-related garbage jokes. I was ashamed to play this in front of my friends yesterday, simply due to all the meme-spewing trash. It was awkward, not entertaining.

In five years, all this stuff going to be quite the embarrassing blast from the past. They could have done just fine with their own material, as seen in Mutant Blobs Attack; why they went this route, I'll never understand.

I really don't understand why they thought catering to one specific demographic so heavily like this was a good idea. They concept and gameplay is so solid, and it shouldn't be marked down for pandering to the lowly people of Reddit, but it sure is grating at times.
