The Elder Scrolls Online Is a Bad Idea

Cheat Code Central's Austin Wood writes: "The enormity and depth inherent in the MMO genre make creating any MMO a daunting task. As you probably already know, the crazies over at Bethesda and ZeniMax Online have made the task extra daunting by adding the immensity of the Elder Scrolls realm into the mix." (PC, The Elder Scrolls Online)

We just don't know enough about the game to make any judgement. The folks that have played it don't seem to think it is all that bad.

I remain skeptical that it will give me the same experience Skyrim did.

I don't think they're going for the same experience (insert bug jokes here). It's obviously trying to clone WoW or at least improve on it with some slight variations. I was hoping for a classic TES game but I think the only similarity will be the universe, not the gameplay. At least it's a rich and engaging universe with plenty of lore. Should be plenty for an MMO and perhaps even enough to get me to try my first.

"It's obviously trying to clone WoW"

So it's a WoW clone because it's an MMO??? From reading the previews, one thing is clear: it plays NOTHING like WoW.

I think the big thing with the game is that it will be a good game but maybe not the game people who wanted a online Elder Scrolls wanted it to be.

I know that since pretty much Morrowind me and my friends have said woulden't it be awesome if this was online. But when we said that we were talking about those games and how they worked and played. With this MMO it's basically the world we all know and love but the combat and perspective that the series is known for is gone. Alot of people wanted this to basically be just as if you were playing say Morrowind or Skyrim except with a bigger world and other real people running around. The little we have see it's basically a pretty normal MMO but based in the world of the Elder Scrolls which is awesome but alot of things will make it not feel like what people hoped it would be.

At the very least that is how I feel about it.

maybe its a bad idea, but that would be my first MMO I played ever! :)

You should try APB reloaded or The Old Republic. Maybe even Global Agenda.

Lets wait and see. I enjoyed Skyrim, but one thing is for sure an MMO needs to be less bugy than what Bethesday usually delivers with their RPGs Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Wizziokid  +   468d ago
It's an MMO it's going to be buggy so if you want a smoother experience best bet is to wait a month or so after launch, that's usually a good period.
camel_toad  +   468d ago
The usual amount of bugs with every mmo launch + Bethesda's buggy track record = totally unplayable at launch.

Seriously though, Bethesda needs to do a total overhaul to their testing. Long overdue.
mendelboaz  +   468d ago
Keep in mind that The Elder Scrolls Online is being developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, not by the development team over at Bethesda Game Studios ;) sure, it'll be buggy due to the fact of being an MMO, but it won't be because of the 'buggy' development by Bethesda Game Studios, seeing as how they AREN'T DEVELOPING THIS GAME.
Wizziokid  +   468d ago
I'll reserve my judgment until I play it but I will see I do they follow a GW2 route with the Buy to Play model and don't go subscription based.

Looking at the track record of subscription based games it never ends well, unless you have Warcraft in the title of course

Would be better online if people get to choose type of player, type of village they want to live in, and over time.

You grow as a community and develop powers, but some other villages will try to take yours and so on.

I know nothing of this type of game, but could be good.

The original game bored me alittle.

Complaining that an unreleased game that has yet to prove itself is a bad idea, is a bad idea.

If it turns out bad, we'll just run into the archives, copy and then paste this same article with "Was" instead of "Is". Let's give it a chance before shutting it down.
KillrateOmega  +   468d ago
I imagine that the game will have more of a WoW-feel to it, and less of the single-player, class TES-feel.
threefootwang  +   468d ago
Not really; the devs already said TESO will have classic Elder Scroll game play in regards to moving, dodging, fighting, running, stealth, etc. Also from what they've mentioned, questing will resemble GW2 setup (they didn't actually say GW2, but its been implied), nothing like WoW. There's also no raiding (Damage/Tank/Heal) in the game, PVP/PVE gear isn't split up, and zones from previous Elder Scroll games will be in this one. Only one mega server with huge plans for PVP, and exploration. They're striving in many ways to set themselves apart from Blizzard.

Damn, didn't know. Thanks for the info, man :)

Because a nobody website from an aspiring games journalist making spurious Bill O'rily style comments knows all.
fermcr  +   468d ago
Not interested. Don't care for MMO's.
threefootwang  +   468d ago
So why comment? lol.
fermcr  +   468d ago
Because i live in a free county, and am free to express my opinion. So take it or leave it.
threefootwang  +   467d ago
SO by your own logic, stating that "you're not interested and don't care for MMO's" yet you take the time to comment on the article clearly states you were interested to some degree, even if you don't like the subject you're commenting about.

shit between this and destiny gaming is about to become addicting again
No, Skyrim was a bad idea.
Mainsqueeze  +   467d ago
I doubt Bethesda thinks so with over 10 million copies sold.

Hmm
I hope this comes out for the ps4 or next xbox. I loved skyrim (360). The world that this game takes place in is cool for me. I just dont want to buy a good pc for 1 game though.
