Every so often, a new IP will emerge that enthralls the gaming community, lighting the touch-paper of our intrigue, wonder, and, crucially, imagination. Notable previous examples include Assassin’s Creed, Brink, and of course the all-engrossing Minecraft. Not only are such titles worthy of interest due to their gaming potential, but also to see whether they continue on to commercial success. Titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Minecraft have indeed been deemed worthy of the hype, rising to the dizzying heights of multi-million dollar franchises. Others, such as Brink, become little more than a memory of an over-blown exercise in mediocrity and failed promises. Now, it is the turn of Ubisoft’s open world techno-manipulating Watch_Dogs to ride the waves of hype, hope and exposure, but what exactly is it that has caused Watch_Dogs to rise to its grandiose position in the gaming world?
