Can Luigi's new hero status help revive Nintendo?

Just three months into the life of its brand new HD console, the Wii U, Japanese gaming giant Nintendo did something extraordinary.

In one of its Nintendo Direct online broadcasts to fans, president Satoru Iwata called 2013 the “year of Luigi”, which would see the company focus on Mario’s lanky sibling in new games and releases. For a company accustomed to using brother Mario to sell its systems, it’s a brave move - especially since reports suggest the Wii U has failed to take off. Just what’s going on? (Wii U)

Add great Luigi games to a great Mario game, a great Zelda game, a great Smash Bros title and a new Mario Kart.... U aint seen nuttin' yet.

that didn't help the gamecube in sales. The wii u will do fine but it won't have huge sales. Be just like the cube. Great first party titles, lack of 3rd and last in sales. Just because it doesn't sell well doesn't mean its not a good system. look at the vita. I love that thing.

but lets be honest, the cube was not low on sales because it couldn't appeal to the market, it was low because the ps2 was a powerhouse. the competition will not sway to one console i thinks wiuu/720/ps4 will have similar success. i think Nintendo relies more on the hardware to sell the software and nintendo software usually does the best in sales.

Nintendo's not exactly dead, you know. But let's play devil's advocate. Assuming Nintendo was in dire need of revival, Luigi would probably need a brand a new, AAA game on the Wii U and a cross-compatible 3DS game with online multiplayer.

They'e not dead, Wii U right now is going through what the 3DS did 2 years ago (horrible sales, lack of ads, no compelling software, no attention from the company, etc) and just like 3DS when 3D Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart come out sales will sky rocket. The price is just right in my opinion, that's why I excluded price drop.

Troll article. Nintendo is fine. God I can't wait to see sales of the Wii U explode after the Release of the next Smash and Mario Kart. It's gonna be hilarious reading all the "Nintendo is BACK" articles on N4G.

Nintendo isn't dead. One can not revive something or someone that is not dead.

Would it really hurt if nintendo tried pushing the image that mario isn't the only character they want the public to see.

Less mario more lesser known characters/ips and luigi is like the unpopular sibling of a well known celebrity.

Wow the last luigi game i remember was luigi's manson on the gc, and how many years did it take to get a sequel.

Lol all but 2 or 3 people are screaming shut up nintendo is not dead, you trolls.

Why are you people more worried about refuting, a console war article than discussing games. Better question why should i even be surprised.
