Batman: Arkham Origins Promises “Expanded World” Plus Series First Gotham Streets Setting

RipTen writes: "Arkham City was fairly open to begin with so how much larger will Eric and his team go with Origins? Will the "sandbox" approach grant us the ability to not only explore places we haven't been able to in previous iterations but also allow us to freely make use of elements we couldn't before, such as vehicles etc?" (Batman: Arkham Origins, PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360)

If vehicles are introduced in Origins, would you want to see that?
Yi-Long  +   374d ago
Yes....
... but only if they do those vehicles justice. They will need to a: have real function, instead of just being a gimmick to list on the box, and b: they need to be FUN to use.
Nostradavis  +   374d ago
Good point. My concern is that it ends up feeling generic and the stealth aspect of the game is lost.
OcelotRigz  +   374d ago
Exactly Yi-Long. I know if they expand the world it would be pretty strange to have a huge city with no vehicles and with the freedom of an open-world game it would be just weird to have batman in his costume walking along the street, cars driving by.
Its going to be very interesting, im a huge fan of the other two, they have an old school gaming feel to them, remind me of games i grew up playing. Pity Rocksteady aint doing it though, that has me a bit worried.

If they do vehicles i hope its kinda like Just Cause, flipping from car to car and fist fighting on trucks would be sweet. Make the bat cape like the parachute in Just Cause so you can eject from a fast car to build momentum for better height and flying distance.

New remote claw that is like the grappler in Just Cause 2
- Batman targets two objects and fires out a claw
- This hooks into the first object and launches another claw and rope to the second object
- Can then pull the two objects together
- Use this to knock enemies together, slam heavy objects into foes, string objects or people under a perch
- Can string up an explosive barrel under a perch, lure enemies with a sonic batarang, then cut the rope with a normal batarang, dropping the explosive on their heads

Not sure about the vehicles and cape being like a chute, but that gives a glimmer of hope to it.

if done right an thats not a easy thing to do they kinda have to if you ask me natural progression. they should (most would disagree) make it complicated rather then just driving down a high way dogging obstacle's. it should have dynamic change in environments underground over grown jumps

but all in all i think they should just stick to what they been doing. some people will trash the game if this is not done right dlc maybe

BUT IT's NOT ROCKSTEADY!
LOGICWINS  +   374d ago
Don't like it don't buy it. If I think the game is good, I don't give a rats ass who made it.
Genuine-User  +   374d ago
Theoretically, what if the game was created by a bunch of serial killers?

I understand what you're saying though, we should only worry if the game is in development at a crap studio.

Not all serial killers are bad

@Genuine-User

If its a good game, who cares.

Look around your room, the plastic comes from oil, think about where oil comes from and how its obtained. Your clothes, how is that made? Your food?
If you want to go deeper, unless you live in either the north or south pole, the chances are your house is on land that was pillaged somewhere down the line.

So yeah.... i forgot what my point was.

WB Montreal know what they're doing with the series though. They were the ones in charge of the Armoured Edition of Arkham City.

I like what I've heard about this so far. The Batman Arkham games have been top quality so far, so I'm expecting great things from this one as well.
Buljo  +   374d ago
They have a good idea with this, but let's hope their execution is top notch as well.
Jek_Porkins  +   374d ago
People act as if developer teams stay together forever, I'm sure a good portion of Rocksteady's team from the first Batman game weren't there for the second. This new game is using all the assets and engine that Rocksteady left, these are professional developers, the game will still be solid.
smashcrashbash  +   374d ago
Ideas are one thing. It's the execution that will be tough

I'm glad this series isn't over yet. Happy that Batman is getting some decent game time. Now if we could only manage that for Superman :(
UnHoly_One  +   374d ago
The problem with superhero games is that most superheros are so powerful there is no way to give them a fun challenge.

Part of the reason this series is so great is because Batman isn't "super", he's just a regular guy who happens to be a badass. lol

oh thank god. i've been dreaming for a gotham city batman game for so long now! dreams do come true sometimes.

You do realise it will probably just be Arkham City's area reskinned.

Since it's a prequel that area were Arkham City was built would still be part of and called Gotham City.

I highly doubt they mean Gotham City as in the middle of the town where you can climb Wayne towers and leap from roof to roof for miles

EDIT:

No, you can dream for that in Rocksteady;s next Batman game for next gen :)

let me dream, okay?
goldwyncq  +   374d ago
No one knows for sure until we get to see some gameplay vids. Stop being so pessimistic.
Root  +   374d ago
@goldwyncq

Pessimistic or realistic

It's coming out so fast, it's like one minute no new Batman game in sight and then BOOM...here's Arkham Origin along with info, packaging art, screenshots oh and it's coming out this year aswell.

Remember when Arkham City was first revealed, it was slowly built up over the course of a year and a half before it was released.

This will be set in the same place as Arkham City now part of Gotham City and will feature some new places and expanded areas.

Remember....Realistic, not pessimistic

"It's coming out so fast, it's like one minute no new Batman game in sight and then BOOM...here's Arkham Origin"

This is the problem with perception, how is it coming out so fast? The game more than likely and I'm 99.9% sure has been in development since Batman:AC was being made or wrapped up. This is probably the reason Rocksteady isn't working on this one.

How should they have released info or build hype for a game?

A Complete Experience would include Bruce Wayne.
whamlollypop7  +   374d ago
The change in developers is concerning but as long as the stick to the core mechanics that made the first two great then all is well. I don't think vehicles will enhance the game.
pbasson  +   374d ago
If they include vehicles then this is gona be like Just cause 2 (never played the first) and that was mad fun. So I think it can be doable

Im super excited for this game! Hopefully the new developers do a great job like rocksteady did.
Gamer-Z  +   374d ago
What? Rocksteady isn't making this game? I hope this wont turn into a Bioshock 2 situation.
Crazay  +   374d ago
I'm not feeling as much optimism on this one purely because it's not Rocksteady...and they added racing elements.
Williamson  +   374d ago
Wow really? I guess I should tone down my excitement, untill I know more about this game.
Crazay  +   374d ago
That's what a friend of mine was saying an ex colleague of his had mentioned. Granted it's all heresay and 3rd hand info but i'm still a little weary.
Crazay  +   374d ago
Oh joyous day. Useless racing sequences added to a game that should stay firmly grounded in the Action genre. No doubt that was shoehorned into the game and will be the worst part of the title.
RFornillos4  +   374d ago
if they do introduce the use of vehicles (i would assume Batman would primarily use only his own vehicles), that their use would be done right. i admire the ability to drive any vehicle a la GTA, or the over-the-top action of Just Cause; however, they may not fit to the Dark Knight's universe.

so they really have to make sure that they don't try to do everything, and just do something that is within the Dark Knight's universe. it's bad enough Rocksteady's not involved, but if they mess it up by adding elements not relevant to the Batman universe, it'll only spell doom for the franchise.
