Can BioShock: Infinite Hold Onto Game of the Year Title?

"As of right now we are early into April, which means that we’ve only passed the quarter mark for the year-to-date and without a doubt the Game of the Year so far is BioShock: Infinite." Explosion.com (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

If Last of Us doesn't take it, I think Watch Dogs or another Next Gen could by that new flair. I do think Bioshock sealed itself some GOTY awards regardless if it wins the top or not

It will depend on other games obviously but mostly on our jaded memories in comparison. Will the story grow to epic proportions or will a game with amazing combat and AI make us remember the flaws (though I am not one who finds the combat dull...vigors etc make it better than most if not all other fps games).

It will get many rewarfs and some goty awards from many. But it will come down to GTA V, the Last of US or Bioshock Infinite. The Last of US could win because of its originality
If Watch Dogs is a better GTA then it will win hands down but that's a big if.

I also think Bioshock has a unique ooportunity with DLC to help its case. Spolier!!! What if we go back to Rapture or another amazing environment. What if they create some crazy horde style dlc that would highlight the combat and all the unique ways u can play.

It will be very hard for any game ti beat Bioshock to me simply because of the incredible world and story that is created.

since "gamers" cant seem to "understand" the BioShock Infinite ending - it probably won't hold many GoTY titles just because that person was...not, up to speed ;)

This is going to be a great year for gaming, and the fact that one of the best rated games of all time is probably going to be topped as GOTY is a good sign, I think.

It means things are only going to get better from here.
Double_Oh_Snap  +   740d ago
GOTY contenders imo, having only played one of these. But also having the utmost trust in the other two to be masterpieces.

Bioshock: Infinite

The Last of Us (Naughty Gods)

GTA V (Never doubt R* North)

I agree. There is no way these three games won't be in the top five. There is still a possibility of a next gen game blowing everybody away and being added to this list though.

IT's a tough year.

Considering the rest of the games live up to their hype.

Infinite, Last of Us, GTAIV, Watchdogs are certain nominess.
ThichQuangDuck  +   740d ago
They are all nominees but Story wise I think bioshock's only possible competition for me is Beyond 2 Souls. The others will present stories but I question whether they will be as immersive as bioshock or beyond 2 souls. GTA will be a huge return especially after my personal biggest disappointment this gen GTA IV

So many great games to name. It's hard to decide. My pick at least is The Last of Us.

can i barrow it?

Yeah...Here..Let me just jump into my Delorean, set the time for June and return back in time to reply to you just before the day is over.

It is hard to call, PS3 has the last of us and PS4 is out......the PC also has some sleeping giants like Company of Heroes 2 and Rome Total War II and quite possibly star citizen (more than likely 2014 though) and one simply cannot forget GTA V even if I thought the last one was disappointing.

A little early to talk about game of the year.

GOTY belongs to The Last of Us.

Because you've played it. It looks good, but it seems like another action adventure game. It won't be Uncharted but it will be similar. I know people here won't agree but here is what I think.

Bioshock will do more for the games industry story wise. It obviously won't be know for its gameplay or even graphics, but it will be remembered for innovating and bringing story telling in video games to new heights. It's like the academy award winning movies.

The Last of Us (The way I see it now based on trailers and info and such) will be more of an innovator in the graphics and gameplay department. It probably won't touch on the deep themes and serious issues relatable to the real world like Bioshock does. But it will have a solid story regardless. It seems like it will be remembered in the same way Uncharted 2 will be remembered. It will be a game that is like an interactive movie with good gameplay.

It's very early in the year, and there are some BIG games yet to release. Let's relax with the goty talk. It's just unnecessary. And none of you have played The Last Of Us. I can smell the anointing oil from here.

Hmm I'm not sure between The Last Of Us, GTA V, Watch Dogs and Dark Souls II (My most anticipated game personally), it is going to be tough.
clintos59  +   740d ago
The Last of Us will my goty but next gta, bioshock infinite, the last of us, watch dogs, & two souls will win a few goty awards as for goty its a toss up.
CaptainSheep  +   740d ago
The Last of Us will crush its competition.
despair  +   740d ago
Still early and I haven't played it yet, big big big year for gaming both this gen and next.
wolokowoh  +   740d ago
Who says it GOTY now. If you're a person who prefers great JRPGs to great shooters, Ni No Kuni currently has it. Plenty of amazing games have been released so far and Bioshock Infinite is definitely in the running but it's had competition from launch day.
PhoenixRising37  +   740d ago
it's tough to predict GOTY2013 considering the many options. We still need to see how the last of us, GTA V, watch dogs, beyond, and maybe even battlefield 4 (i have hopes)

as of now, it'll be pretty hard to top bioshock infinite's metacritic. not that the games i listed will have a hard time topping it. and yes, i'm aware GOTY is not just determined by the number on metacritic.
