BioShock: Infinite Review | GamingExcellence

Andrew Sztein of GamingExcellence writes; "With this release, the BioShock franchise hasn’t just established itself as a premier franchise in gaming to come out of this generation, but also one of the most important. It’s rare for a video game to intelligently tackle hard issues and force players to look at their own beliefs, and BioShock Infinite does that better than almost any other in this medium." (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 9.5/10

There's enough hot air being generated about BioShock Infinite to float the whole US, not just Columbia!

I think the story and the way it 'tackles hard issues' has been hugely over hyped, over blown, and over rated.

I thought Infinite was a fairly average FPS game. Not as good as the first, but miles better than the 2nd.

9/10 for me. WAAY WAY above the average imo, but also not as good as the first. I don't really care about 'tackling hard issues'. I like the way the story is good and better than most FPS's. The combat is alright, it shines whenever there are skylines. But well, Story/art/characters etc are all top notch. Plus the last 2-3 hours exploration was nice, reminded me of Bioshock

This game it getting overhyped, then it is getting thrown into the dust by others just because it's overhyped, it's like FF7's anti hype campaign. This game is well above average, even if it is being overrated.

Cool. I'm glad you're enjoying it. No doubt the skylines are amazing, and I do love how it is the polar opposite of the claustrophobic and rusted Rapture.

I was just hoping for something more... I never really found the Vigors exciting - except for the Crow one, which was just great, especially when powered up with the Devil.

The idea of combo-ing the Vigors was nice, but underused and a bit fiddly on the PS3 controller. The guns were all a bit meh (weapons upgraded with Vigors could have been more interesting)

I kinda missed having the dynamic of Big Daddies and Little Sisters and the more in your face moral choices.

Solid 9 for me because of the story, but I have to agree with Jdoki gameplay was a bit average, I still think the first Bioshock was better, Rapture was a much more immersive world in my opinion.

Solid 8 for me.

I actually enjoyed the ending but the combat system leaves much to be desired and the boss battles were weak imo.

I did enjoy the world and story. The ending was a pleasant surprise and of course Elizabeth was cool.

I wrote this review, glad to see it sparking some discussion :) Even if the game doesn't "tackle the hard issues" as well as the best films or books, the fact that its ambitions go way beyond most games was enough for me to applaud the effort. It handled those themes very well.

I agree that the boss battles left a little bit to be desired, especially towards the end, hence the lack of a perfect score.
