'We Hate To See All PS4 Games Being FPS' - Yoshida

NowGamer: "Sony has proven itself over the course of the PS3's lifecycle that it's not afraid to try something different and target different markets.

ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet, MAG and the likes of Journey or Tokyo Jungle on the PSN Store are all names that - while not huge sellers like Uncharted - show that Sony is willing to try new things." (Next-Gen, PS4, Sony)

probably one of the most important factors for me purchasing the PS4 this christmas. Sony has a proven track record of incredible variety. Shooters are only fun for a few minutes.
TimmyShire  +   816d ago
Agree fully! I enjoy shooters but I'm kinda done with most of them. As you say, they only stay fun for a while. It's original ideas like Journey that I want to see more of.
shivvy24  +   815d ago
i want the good old platformers back like Jak and Daxter , Crash etc :)
Ezz2013  +   816d ago
well sony do bring all type of genres
that's why i'm buying ps4
abzdine  +   816d ago
it's all about variety with PlayStation.
If Sony didn't exist this generation we would never see all great platforming games (Sly, LBP..) fun games (Battle Royale, MNR, LBPK..).. many types of games are dying and thanks to Sony they are still bringing them back to us.

PS4 or nothing!

Games like LBP and LBP K are fun but I'm sorry... Battle Royale is just pure fu**ing SH*T!
This statement alone makes me want ps4. After Killzone and BF4 I will most likely not buy another shooter for 6 months.
Jaqen_Hghar  +   816d ago
a man recommends Far Cry 3 if a user hasn't tried it. A man is greatly enjoying it despite not being an FPS fan himself.

Sony, please bring the jrpg back! Ps1 was your golden era with all the good rpgs made from your studios! You guys should really make an exclusive with groundbreaking graphics, phenomenal gameplay, and an amazing story! Please sony, put your moneh and time to it! I had to force myself this gen to like a genre i really wasn't interested in(fps).
3-4-5  +   816d ago
They are fun for months if you are into them....

I'm kind of over shooters even though I love them.

I've been playing Planetside 2 since I just got a new PC and I've loved it though.

Really breathing some fresh air into the shooter genre.

That being said, it's time to move back to actual games.

This gen NEEDS to bring back JRPG's to the mainstream, bring us a ton of good SRPG's, bring back quality 3D platformers, and completely surprise us by giving us something we could have never imagined.
delboy  +   813d ago
It's a lie Yoshida, and only brain washed Sony boys believe you.
Ps3 has more exclusive shooters than xbox.

Warhawk (3rd person, but still a shooter)
Resistance 3 times
Kill Zone 2 times
Dust 514
Socom 2 times
Uncharted 3 times (yes it's a 3rd person shooter)
TLoU (also a shooter)

You know you need shooters to move the console, that's why you made so many on ps3,so stop lying, ps4 will be the same.

It's one of the things I like most about PS3 recently - games like Journey, Tokyo Jungle, Unfinished Swan, etc

More like that for PS4 please (having The Witness on stage at the big PS4 reveal is definitely a good start)
TimmyShire  +   816d ago
I agree. Not really bothered by The Witness but it looks interesting .

Leave the first person shooters for third party developers because the market is terribly saturated as it is unless you have a unique idea for one.

But this is a really commendable approach from Sony; it goes to show that their promise about catering for core gamers isn't just a blunt approach of content for the sake of it but a concerted effort to offer content through innovation and a genuine interest in moving the industry forward.

Sony appear to be taking all the right steps this gen. I really can't fault any of its decisions. I don't mean this in the soppy, fanboyish way many on here go about but truly, Sony are an epitome of all the things 'true gamers' have been asking for, for a long time this gen.

Not only have they learned their lessons from their mistakes, but they really do seem to be setting themselves up to school the competition like they did in their previous glory days.

Very well said. I like their approach. I like the variety of games they're pumping out, from FPS to strategy to even niche titles I would have never even think about, such as Flower and Journey.

Again, very well said Septic. Bubbles.

Games like puppeteer, rain, the witness, knack, drive club, the last guardian. Love how its not just about shooters.

I'll admit im a sony fanboy but surely ppl should understand that when we get spoiled with amazing games it can tend to make us do some fanboyish things but atleast I can admit it & have reasons to be a sony fanboy. I got nuttin against greenpowerz as I know he loves microsoft but the way they been for the last few years. Even I wouldnt defend sony if they treated us that way.

Me too! I like Killzone and all, but it's the more off-the-cuff ideas that I really love.
richierich  +   816d ago
How about more JRPGs that's what the industry is lacking
Gamer1982  +   816d ago
Thats 3rd partys they are trying to evolve the genre and nobopdy likes the direction there heading thats why ni-no-kuni got such high scores as it went back to basics. Forget graphics and flash get a decent system in there and a great story/characters and you got a great JRPG. If you want graphics in JRPG thats great but never forget the basics and stop trying to make a new battle system! we are happy with the existing ones!

That + how tales continues to stay with its core mechanics. Loved Ni No Kuni, it revitalised my love for JRPG's after a stale tasting this whole generation.
Sarobi  +   816d ago
Variety will get you far.
_LarZen_  +   816d ago
There are way to many FPS games...most of them are just plain bad.
sway_z  +   816d ago
I don't think FPS's on PS4 will be an issue of over saturation.

Most PS users I have been blessed to know since PS1/PS2/PS3 are a savvy bunch who like variety and are willing to try new game genres.

Even if some of those niché games are more of a critical success than a commercial one.

Lastly, PS4 game development costs less than PS3's game development due to the easy to use PC architecture. So there should be more developers/publishers willing to experiment with unique and creative game styles.

I really wanna see Guerrila do something that isnt a FPS.
PS4isKing_82  +   816d ago
Fps is for that "other" console.
We ps gamers prefer variety :D
hellvaguy  +   816d ago
It's great a lot of people want variety, but let's be honest here, people vote with their money. FPS games are really what are the big sellors. Their are definitely some notable exceptions like Uncharted and GoW. It's the same reason why you don't see hardly any jrpg's--they just don't sell many.

Sony knows how to develop talent and invest in studios. No doubt that their first parties will only get better.

Glad to see they're looking at Knack that way, hopefully they can build it into a strong, mascot franchise for next gen. Microsoft really must do the same with a new launch IP.
R_aVe_N  +   816d ago
FPS are always great to have, but after awhile they all start to feel the same, and get boring really fast. Having a many different genre's of games just makes a system so much more appealing. Having games like Infamous, Knack, and Driveclub just allows for an overall better game experience.
gamertk421  +   816d ago
The problem is that most shooters aren't all that good, but it seems like the same can be said for any genre.

i'm so sick of FPS games after this genre
don't get me wrong i still like them
but it's been overcooked

I think im gonna be the only one on this site but my most anticipated ps4 title as of today is Knack, i love platformer games and after finding out that Mark Cerny worked on Crash, Jack and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank i'm expecting nothing less than a really fun game to play, Crash, Jack, Ratchet and Sly rank among my best platformer experiences ever so i expect nothing less from Knack. Im getting Killzone because i love killzone multiplayer and of course inFAMOUS and Evo better get back to the Most brutal off road racer ever created asap.

Looking forward to Driveclub and Knack... Wouldn't mind a few RPGs of the Western variety.

Thank god i had my Gow, Ni No Kuni, Star Hawk, LBp, Demon Souls of the world.
SSJBen  +   816d ago
Bring back JRPGs.
They were indeed over saturated in the PS1 and PS2 days, just like how FPS are over saturated now.

So it is time to bring back some of those long loved but never forgotten genres.
Survival horror needs to come back as well.
