Comment Suggests New PlayStation Vita Firmware To Offer Folders

The PlayStation Vita’s user interface has never been quite the perfect specimen we wanted it to be, and one of the most glaring omissions (aside from some anti-aliasing, if you want to really geek out) is the ability to put games and apps into folders, something the 3DS has offered for a while.

Well, that might be about to change, as SCEE’s Fred Dutton has hinted that there might be a firmware update soon to address this issue. (PS Vita, Sony)

Hopefully

It would be a most welcomed update if true. Frankly, it should have been there day one. It's very sloppy to have pages and pages and pages of content to swipe through.

Hopefully it's true and hopefully it comes out really soon.

I'm already out of room. I've deleted games 6 times already to make room for ps plus games. So folders would be very welcome addition.
Qrphe  +   661d ago
Just to clarify, you delete games because of the clutter?
Donnieboi  +   661d ago
Yes, Qrphe, it is due to the clutter, not memory. THAT is why I said it. Or else it would be irrelevant, wouldn't it? s/

Many of the games I have are from psp, ps mobile, and mini's. So I have over 100 games on my vita that don't use up too much memory, but take up all of my icon space.

You are a very dedicated gamer ;o)

@protagonist:

Nah I barely even touch my Vita anymore. Not cause it sucks, but because I have mostly jrpg's (every persona game is in my vita, plus bof 4, wild arms, monster hunter, etc) on it and haven't got the time to put into it. Most of those games came free through 3 years of ps plus. So when ps plus came to vita, I was convonced to get a crazy vita bundle for less than $179 on Amazons cyber Monday deal.

It was a White Vita with Assassins Creed Liberation (sold that game for persona 4 golden asap), a 4 gb memory card (sold it for cash toward a 32gb card), a free copy of playstation all-stars digital version, and 3 months of ps plus free.

All for less than $179! Also knowing that I had a back catalog of about 85 games (ps1,mini's, and free ps mobile) games collected from ps plus but never bothered playing on my ps3.

So the $179 already paid for itself with this purchase. So i'd have to be a crack head not to get this crazy deal!

i would love folders, i hate them dum looking bubbles...
G20WLY  +   661d ago
How ironic that you misspelled the word 'dumb'...

For me, the issue is not the bubbles so much as the limit. 100 is not enough. Folders would definitely help to find what you're looking for though - plus it offers a choice, which has to be good!

If they do raise the 100 limit, I hope that could hint that they're working on bigger memory cards... :)

One thing I've always liked about the 3DS is that on the main page there's that little button that lets you adjust how many icons are displayed on the main screen. You can make it like the original one-row menu like the DSi, or you can shrink the icons so all of them show up on one screen.

I wish Vita had something similar. This rumor, if true, would be a step in the right direction.

That's pretty cool, I hope Vita does something like it.

Oh god, this update might save layouts!? I would take the memory cards saving layouts over folders ANY day. Then I could actually use a Japanese account for my other 8 GB card that has just been useless since I bought it. I didn't want to spend 30 minutes reorganizing all my crud after switching out every time. That was a pain in the butt...

I agree. I don't understand why the layout can't just be saved on the memory card itself. I'd use my 32GB for Vita games, and my 16GB for PSP/PS1 games.

Even the PS3 has folders, so I don't understand how this feature wasn't there at launch.

Should've been a day one feature.

To think, the PS3 STILL doesn't have an option to sort games by Alphabetical order. Get on it Sony!!

I do hope that new update also meant we'll be able to swap memory cards without changing resetting the whole vita. The guy who got the reply asked for folders and that too.
ziggurcat  +   661d ago
i'm pretty sure sony mentioned a while ago that they were going to allow folders in a future FW update.
joel_c17  +   661d ago
The biggest thing i want is the ability to have 2 accounts on 1 psv... then i could have my US and my AU account on the one vita.
DivineAssault  +   661d ago
hope so.. i need more space!

Yes please bring the folders to vita sony. I beg of you.
tarbis  +   661d ago
YAY! good news. More folders means I can use more wallpapers. ^o^
The_Troll_Whisperer  +   661d ago
This should be added to the PS3 too
It'd be really cool if you could use folders to file your games of your choice instead of the presets
