Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

Michael Pachter has been called a lot of things — not all of them repeatable on a family-friendly site such as Nintendo Life — but many of his harshest critics seem to miss the point of what he is actually saying; his job is to ensure that people invest their cash wisely and not to placate over-zealous fans. Nevertheless, his comments generate heat, stir debate and garner an incredible amount of interest — not all of it positive, it has to be said.

Given that his standing among Nintendo fans probably isn't all that great right now, Nintendo Life thought it was high time that Pachter was allowed to put across his own point of view. With that in mind, he graciously agreed to sit down for an interview. What follows is pure Pachter; it's honest and sometimes brutal reading for Nintendo lovers, but the man speaks an awful lot of sense and has an uncanny appreciation for the industry we all love.

Stow away your pitchforks and douse those flaming torches — it's time for a Pach Attack. (3DS, Industry, Nintendo, Wii U)

Michael Patcher makes some factual points the man knows his stuff. ;)

“Be patient” is not a clear plan for success.

Edit: Funny because I have never called him such things try again ;)

Funny how he's an "idiot" or a "hack" when the topic pertains to anything but Nintendo.

He's wrong about a lot of things. He said that installed base will equal more 3rd party games. Okay, well that didn't happen for the Wii. The Wii had the largest installed base and yet most of the 3rd party games were terrible.

What will matter in this upcoming gen is HOW PROFITABLE can your game be on such-and-such system. How much will it sell? How expensive is it to develop/port on that system? It's why we're seeing a ton of indies flock to Sony's side because Sony is making it very profitable (regardless of installed base) for indie devs to develop for Sony hardware.

Yeah that sounds nothing like.. "It's not a sprint, it's a marathon." ... who said that?...

Which is a great investment right now... lol

Given his track record, the only other job he could hold and not be fired from is meteorologist. They also can be wrong all the time and still succeed in a career.

I still remember him saying he'd eat his hat if The Walking Dead won Game Of The Year at the Spike Awards...lol
