How BioShock Infinite’s social commentary advances video game storytelling

VB - Storytelling in video games has come a long way since the simple “save the princess” days of the 1980s. While the medium began without much emphasis on story, that’s slowly become a key aspect. Within the past few generations, video games have proven capable of evoking emotions in players and provoking thought through their innovative and sometimes revolutionary storylines, many of which have received considerable praise from critics and fans alike. I’d personally like to credit games like Silent Hill 2 and the Mass Effect trilogy for showcasing some of the most well-written stories — because of their depth of emotion and how they handle subjects that had been untouched at the time. (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
