Callum has taken a look back at Crackdown for the Xbox 360 to see why it is, in his opinion, one of the best, and most underrated, games from this generation.
agree, amazing underrated game, hope for Crackdown 3 NextGen
Yeah if you ignored the story and just made the most of the sandbox fun it was an absolute joy! Agility FTW!
Definitely an underrated game. Many people forget that the brains behind GTA was responsible for this, and there was just so much fun and mayhem to be had. And things got even crazier once you played with a friend. Excellent game and one you should definitely try out, especially with a mate, if you havrnt already done so.
I played a bit of it, but it always felt like it was missing something... I couldn't put my finger on it though. Regardless, it was a pretty fun game. :]
I think the issue it did have was related to it being Sandbox. It meant that you didn't really have any structure, the game wouldn't narrow the field as to where you should go it just said "Here's a city, go nuts"...A blessing and a curse.
I would choose alan wake over crackdown.
@the idiot dude different type of game how do you even .........ill say no more stfu
@g2gshow becuz i think alan wake was a great game and it was also under-rated. alan wake deserve more. "Why Crackdown is One of The Best Games of This Generation" didnt mention any specific genre. wish there was a alan wake 2 instead of a crackdown 2. *i know they made another chapter for alan wake but i still want a full blown game

the original crack down was amazing game really enjoyable part two was trash in comparison. different development studio it was a shell of what crack down use to be
Crackdown 1 was super fun but boy what a disappointment crackdown 2 was the best thing about crackdown 1 was that you could get to the bosses right from the start
One of the funnest games I have played this gen. My friend told me to get it, so when I got my Xbox in 08', it was one of the first games I got. It was so well made, and it actually gave you a sense of freedom and accomplishment levelling up your speed, strength and how high you can jump. I think Crackdown 1 craps all over Prototype (seriously, I thought that game sucked, the controls were nowhere near as fluent as they could have been). Anyway, I never bought Crackdown 2. Microsoft totally screwed that up, releasing a game that took less than a year to make (after they lost old code lmao). After that disappointing release that is when I got into Infamous.
Crack down 2 was blatantly an expansion pack dressed up as full price. Same everything pretty much. It kinda got a free pass. I understand if it's not broken don't fix it but don't take the piss
Does anyone remember Edge saying 'if infamous 2 is better than crackdown 2 we will eat our hats'. Infamous 2 meta 83 Crackdown 2 meta 70 Of course Edge fixed their scores giving crackdown 2 an inflated rating just to prove their point. Funny times lol, but also grossly unprofessional.
Infamous 2 wasn't as good as the first one. The vampire add on was better than the main game.
@frakistan totally right it was such a let down all i could do is shake my head when i beat it
FRAKISTAN best thing about crackdown 1 was that you could get to the bosses right from the start very true if you had the balls why not give the player the choice to play how they see fit
Without this game, there would've been no Gravity Rush.
I don't see how they're related.
The director said that the levelling system in Crackdown had an influence on the one in Gravity Rush. DigitalAnalog in his infinite wisdom has taken this to mean that there would be no Gravity Rush without Crackdown.
I loved Crackdown 1. When it was released, it was awesome. Jumping around tall building to collect orbs and the power ups themselves were a blast. My 360 died before 2 came out and Realtime Worlds(the devs behind 1) moved onto APB which was an absolute disaster. I wish they would release it on PC.
fanboys started this again if crackdown is one of the best games of this generation then sure think about alien colonial marines too xbox fanboys..and stop making fun of yourself PlayStation and xbox have ton of exclusives this doesn't mean you call every exclusives are best of this generations this is stupid. FYI- I own both xbox 360 and ps3.And I'm no fanboy
I really don't understand what you are trying to say here, partially because of your use of English, but also because you've made leaps of assumption about fanboyism and this piece being about the console rather than the game.
Why don't you try saying all of that in English? Because it sounds so interesting.
I can assure you I am not an Xbox fanboy :D I'd love the game no matter what platform it was released on, the fact that it is Xbox exclusive is incidental.
I'm assuming Crackdown is part of the "Honorable Mentions" part of the Best of the 7th Generation category. But my Best of the 7th Honorable Mention is Burnout Paradise. A plethora of DLC, a sense of speed, innovative MP and more.
As much as I enjoyed Crackdown, it felt like it was missing some more polish and better direction in the story.
LMAO, One of the Best of this generation? What are you smoking?
Weed...... I mean..... Nothing
Amazing game one of my faves for sure the first time i jumped of a skyscraper and got that sense of vetigo kind of turned my stomach was a great feeling.
Collecting those ORBs were addicting AS HELL!
Agree! I managed all 500 agility and 300 hidden and don't regret doing it at all. Much fun was had jumping around collecting them.
Incredibly average game in my opinion I found it to be pretty boring
yea i honestly could not get into it.but to each your own
one of the best powering up games EVER . realtime worlds = awesome
Crackdown reminds me of a time when the Xbox was fresh and those agility orbs, collecting them was actually fun!, weird hey?! Agent let me remind you....
Orb collecting and the dude that voiced the director of the Agency. Everything else was average to mediocre.
Author of the piece here, thanks for all the responses so far! I completely understand that Crackdown divided opinions and so expected a lot of people to disagree but (as I stated in the article) I simply haven't had as much fun with any game this generation as I did with Crackdown. Great game.
i personally had more fun with infamous - its the only game ive ever bothered to platinum and i had heaps of fun with the powers and finding all the shards.
remember agent : "SKILLS FOR KILLS AGENT ..........SKILLS FOR KILLLS !!!" LOL
It definitely had a better formula for experimentation in the sandbox than most other sandbox games this gen
