Shark jumping: Game franchises

If Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s wasn't the point that Activision's mega franchise jumped the shark, I'm tipping the upcoming Aerosmith edition will be.

For the uninitiated, jumping the shark is a fabulous pop culture term originating from a Happy Days episode in which Fonzie preposterously jumps over a shark on waterskis - an obvious, desperate attempt by the show's producers to revive flagging ratings.

Triggered by a gut feeling on Guitar Hero, today Screen Play thought it would be fun to look back when other popular game franchises jumped the shark - the point where fans noticed a significant decline in quality and the original's charm was unlikely to ever return.
