Convention Syndrome

Nerdluster: GDC and PAX East were resounding successes this year but there is a common thread that has managed to taint both of these events with words like: discrimination, hate and abuse. Modern day technology conventions (professional or otherwise) make it hard for young women, parents or even well-respected artists to connect with fans and peers in a safe environment. It has become inevitable, in the days following these events you'll often hear about a situation where a girl was abused or publicly ridiculed. The environment is ripe for this kind of misconduct but fortunately it's also the perfect time to nip it in the bud. We can initiate a change right now and make this an industry that caters to everyone and not just a select few. (Culture, Game Developers Conference 2013, Industry)
