Even in a non-competitive setting, the power and voyeurism of the sniper rifle is very alluring. What does a game need to do to capitalise on this and make its ranged gunplay satisfying?
sadly most of the community now believes "quickscoping" is the only way to use a sniper rifle, and that any other way is a sin. Never can forgive COD for ruining this generation of wannabe "snipers"
If you want to make sniping satisfying then the game needs to have bullet drop as well as proper gun sway and recoil when not using a bipod. And of course no quick scoping or auto-aim of any kind.
It's not mysterious at all, it's a test of patience, precision, tactical prowess, reflexes, and reading the situation/enemy. It's a huge test of skill and takes lots of it in many aspects when done right, then comes along the arcade shooter players and think they are accomplishing the same things with their heavily assisted shots, quickscoping(which i never understood as that snaps to the nearest enemy, seems like it should be frowned upon, not praised)prolonged camping(in places that don't even make sense for a sniper)and pixel perfect instant hit bullets. Try playing Sniper Elite 1/V2 or Arma and try that shit, good luck surviving that.
Simple. You can't shoot me from way over here.
