Lucas Rep Says Star Wars 1313 Might Be Saved

Game Informer recently interviewed a representative from LucasFilm, who shed some light on the events leading to the closing of LucasArts. They also revealed that some of the company's projects in development, including Star Wars 1313, might have a future after all. (PC, PS3, Star Wars 1313, Xbox 360)

What a week of bad gaming news im scared of what studio closes/lay offs people the rest of the week. Industry is a clusterf*** right now and i fear its only the beginning.

Lucasarts May 1982-April 2013 R.I.P.

Hope they let Double fine buy the Monkey Island,Grim Fandango and day of the tentacle IP's.

Also real scummy by Disney to do this 1 week after GDC, if they did it before those people could have gone job hunting at GDC.

Same thought... Disney with all that kid money doesn't give a fuck I guess.

All we can hope for now is that they start auctioning off the licensing and they get bought.

Personally I'm hoping someone picks up Galactic Battlegrounds license XD.

This is all on LucasArts itself. Its been making so many poor decisions over the last couple of years its a wonder they weren't shut down a long time ago.

Fact is they have been a so-so publisher and a mediocre developer. Better studios have been lost for far less.

As far as Disney is concerned, well Star Wars is, as a franchise, at most "pg-13". Disney has put out that level of stuff in the past.

Disney bought the license for a reason, its a money maker. LucasArts just got in the way, and is pretty much irrelevant at this point.

Ultimately it comes down to what direction Disney decides to take Star Wars. One indication is the immediate focus on the New Republic era, which sounds great to me.

When it comes to games Disney can decide lease the license to others or publish games themselves, so the franchise still has hope.

1313 was barely a game at E3. It sounds like it was just beginning production. The concept sounded good but concepts tend to change.

Its sucks that folks lost their jobs, but LucasArts was on life support long before Disney came around.

I hope it does get saved, that game looked pretty badass. Still a shame what happened to Lucasarts though :/

If it does manage to be saved, it's not going to be the same... most likely for worse
aliengmr  +   784d ago
Worse than what? What you saw at E3 was not the final product. We weren't even told who the main characters were going to be.

Aside from the demo there was no info on the game at all.

If this game gets cancelled ill be so pissed at Disney...

Why are these companies orientated towards the casuals...

Wouldn't surprise me we see Mickey Mouse adventures featuring Luke sky walker or something stupid

$$$

That's why.

Disney has always been towards the casual. They have a real chance to do something with the license with video games and they will do something by and for 2015. I just hope its not another rotten egg. I believe they likely will hand off Star Wars 1313 to someone by the time E3 lands. If not then all is lost. E3 2014 we will see a Star Wars game. I have no doubts about that with Episode VII coming in 2015 something has to land in the gaming world.

What LA was doing would have landed with a success now its up in the air with 50/50 chance of being decent or being utter crap.

I hope Star Wars 1313 gets saved! I just can't think of any studio's right now that could continue to build on the early stages of what was revealed of that game already.

As long as it's not Gearbox, I think we will be fine.

Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Sam & Max, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Rebel Assault 1-2, Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2.

So many fond memories, but none of them within the past decade. It's a bit sad they are closing, but not surprising to me.

You are swimming in the Amazon full of Piranhas. If Satan buys Star Wars IP, a lot of us won't be happy one bit.

I can't believe that this happens, hey Kaz or Mr. Gates can one of you two search in your pockets and buy the company, please ?
_FantasmA_  +   785d ago
LOL Gates? Those stingy M$ bass turds? You really think they will spend a dime? Maybe SEGA, 2K, or Ubisoft.
andreasx  +   785d ago

That really is heartbreaking stuff. I looked forward to play THIS game like no other....it looked like this game would finally turn things around for the franchise & StarWars on the Next Gen. Darn, very unhealthy from Disney. Lucasarts was a Very talented group of people together, i hope they'll find work on StarWars Games with other developers. Thx for all the great Games on PC(Full Throttle/Monkey Island/Indiana Jones Adventures) & StarWars on N64/PC.

No not might... IT MUST BE SAVED !!! Give us Star Wars 1313 !!!
DeadManMcCarthy  +   785d ago
i was really looking forward to that game.
aliengmr  +   784d ago
1313 was not even close to being finished.

And really aside from the fact that it was about bounty hunters and took place on Coruscant, nothing else was know about the game.

My guess is that since Disney is shifting focus from the Clone Wars era to the New Republic era, even should they decide to revive it, things will change.

I really don't have a clue what Disney plans for SW games. But there is hope.

Let's face it, the SW franchise has been dying a very slow death for a while now. It needed to be rescued from both George Lucas and LucasArts itself. While the future is questionable for SW, there is more hope for it than before.
