iLL Threesome Review: BioShock Infinite

Every once in awhile comes a game that’s so hyped that we can’t help but have more than one of iLL Gaming’s finest comment on the subject.

This is one of those moments. And the game in question is BioShock Infinite.

Fitting then, that rather than write a completely by the numbers review, that we’ve decided to turn the formula on its’ head. Much like how Infinite’s plot does so.So after many a heated debate, Jedi-level trolling, copious amounts of Red Bull and at least one documented case of a hit-squad being sanctioned on a fellow writer (by me nonetheless), we have our three-headed take of BioShock Infinite. (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 7.5/10

You are completely entitled to your opinion. But 7.5? This game is no 7.5. In my opinion at the very least it's an 8.5 very, very least. At one point you ask 'Where’s all the hate and negativity?', you could ask that question in EVERY game review! You blame the lack of hate and negativity on hype, suggesting that if a games got hype it won't get negativity, wow, how dumb are all us gamers, this games was hyped, me so stoopid it must mean it good. Go back and read your own review, imagine someone else reading it and how they'll perceive you, then start again. Infinite is awesome.

I'd give it a 9/10. The last 3 hours were amazing in particular. I feel like at the very least, of all the overrated games this generation like Uncharted, Bioshock:Infinite deserves it the most. The devs really put alot of care into every single aspect of the game giving it some of the best visuals/mood/Art this gen, one of the better stories/script/writing/themes and characters this gen, and some very good gameplay for the most part. Despite some combat shortcomings,(I basically only used 3 vigors most of the time, and 'when' Skylines weren't around the combat was below par).

I can sorta see how this is getting the reviews and hype though I mean some parts of the game blew me away. I mean, even the first time you see one of those crow enemies was a randomly great scene and the art reflected it perfectly.

Again the gameplay sequences from the last 3 hours really threw it up a notch in the gameplay department. Along with the somewhat explorable city at the end.

Eidt- Really 3'rd reviewer? 5/10? Because it did nothing new? You must love gaming this generation

Edit--@ Clingtagious. That's my point with Uncharted.

It has visuals, decent - great gameplay, characters. That's it. Game of the generation? No. It lacks an interest story in all regards, themes, plot, twists etc etc. I care much much more about a good plot than cutscene mixed into gameplay. Uncharted is that blockbuster high quality action flick and nothing more than that. I mean, i'm not saying that is a bad thing btw, i'm saying that it's not ambitious enough, nor does it bring something that will dumbfound you or leave you speechless. It just is. It's like saying Raiders of the lost ark is the best movie ever because it didn't do anything wrong.

What it did do was play the safe ball and do something everyone would like a lot without putting too much thought into wowing anyone, again, the only area Uncharted excelled in was having funny(and that's as far as it goes) characters, and amazing looking action sequences like they were ripped out of a movie. Eh yeah again, definitely overrated, not nearly the best game of all time like many people say.

Gta4 is another massively overrated game so...yeah

Im sorry I rarely disagree with ppl but to say uncharted is overrated? U serious? I mean I know everyone has their own opinion but to call a game overrated when it lives up to its hype does not fit with the word overrated. Overrated is a game like GTA4 getting all those perfect reviews and not living up to the hype. Thats overrated.

Edit: Wanted to add that Bioshock Infinite is a great game but as I said, not everyone is going to be blown away by the gameplay. Other then that the game does everything else really well & is worth buying. 9 out of 10 from me.

See I look at it different, the way I review a game is I go by its genre. Uncharted may not be the greatest game of all time but it is the best game in its genre. U wont find another series that does it better then uncharted in that genre. Even games like tomb raider took ideas from uncharted to revamp the tombraider series. Thats how amazing uncharted is.

@clintagious650 the new tomb raider does uncharted better than uncharted. Lol. There's no free roam in uncharted and "no blood".
clintagious650  +   569d ago
The new tomb raider is great but doesnt hold a candle against uncharted 2. Just because it has blood doesnt mean its better also free roam is not made for every game. For an Iconic game character like lara croft taking lessons from nathan drake shows how much of an influence uncharted was in creating the new direction for the new tomb raider. That is respect.

Tomb raider imo is better than uncharted 2 in everyway. Don't act like uncharted wasn't influence by the old tomb raider.

Uncharted didnt get its influence from tomb raider it got it from indiana jones. U guys obviously havent played old tomb raider games because uncharted is nothing like old tomb raider games.

Siren30
Thats your opinion but imo uncharted 2 is better because it changed the way we play games where it felt like u were watching a great movie but u controlled it all. Tomb Raider may have improved off uncharted but like tomb raider devs said, "The Were Influenced By Uncharted Series" & the new tomb raider was brought back to life. Thanx to naughty dog who will again set the standard with the last of us.

Yeah uncharted 2 is the best. But uncharted 3 didn't bring anything new to the francise. Tomb raider did. Heck I enjoyed how the enemies react to u better in tomb raider. Stealthwise tomb raiders is a lil off for me. Yeah the bows help its not as good as when clearing a place with drake. The animations are superior. Let's wait for the sequel. I know they'll bring something new. I hope the bring back the Croft Manor

Agree with that review, its a good game, but nothing crazy, for how much they bragged about making Catherine alive, they really messed up by making rest of the NPC lifeless, stiff and fake. Story is great, but everything else is just average, and I wouldn't give game score of 9/10 because of story, everything has to work together to make a great experience.
cleft5  +   569d ago
I agree with the reviewer as well. People are overlooking some huge flaws because of how great the story was told.

This game isn't perfect and depending on what difficulty you played on and your play style this game can be really, really annoying. I can see this score easily if the reviewer focused on leveling shields and health over Vigors, and played the game on Hard the first time through.

I get the feeling a lot of these reviewers played the game on Normal, so they didn't have to worry about so much of the annoying bullshit that happens in this game. On hard, if you haven't focused mainly on Vigors and found two vigors that break the game than you are in for a terrible time. When you make it to that final, poorly design battle that turns the game into a tower defense game it can easily take you two hours to beat. The reason being because the rules of the game completely change and the weapons you are stuck with, outside of the shotgun and maybe sniper, is ones that you probably didn't level up.

I love Bioshock Infinite, but this game does do some serious bullshit stuff and it doesn't deserve a perfect scores. Gameplay wise it turns into kill a million dudes, the skyline system isn't used nearly enough, the one big fight you think should happen doesn't happen, and the final battle is annoying as shit if you don't have your Vigors high enough to manage that final battle well.

I can see this game getting between an 8 - 9, 7.5 is a bit harsh but I am not going to say that is completely out of line either. The story is amazing, the gameplay is great, but there are a lot of flaws as well.
