CEO J. Paul Raines is excited for next-gen but also sees software pricing becoming a "hot debate" in the coming months
"AND AS MUCH AS SOME HAVE DISCOUNTED THE Wii U ALREADY AND THINK THE NEW LAUNCHES OF THE CONSOLES FROM SONY AND MICROSOFT WILL MAKE THE Wii U IRRELEVANT, Raines knows better than to count Nintendo out. "This industry has a lot of cynicism and people love to say stuff isn't going to work, but we think the Wii U is a real console that's been disappointing for a couple months,..." EDIT: some hardcore Wii U supporters wanted the full quote
Everybody is talking about the next X-Box except Microsoft, time for them to give out some info!
LOL I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU Anyway this article is a good read, most of the things Raines says is right and true, we still haven't heard anything about the next Xbox though and I am starting to think other people know more about the Xbox than MS itself does lool :P, I believe by E3 every gamer will have their choice on what console to get EDIT: @nukeitall and @WrAiTh_Sp3cTr3 I do not know why you are unhappy, I was saying how that particular point that Raines said was a burn, not the entire quote. I do believe that once Nintendo start rolling out IP's, they will sell more, that is just the way Nintendo are.
No Microsoft does not need to start giving info on the next xbox, E3 is coming so why would they not want to wait and show all then when the world is watching? Only the obsessed impatient gamers care anyway, most folks just enjoy playing games now and will get excited when somethings announced.
That is the point...EVERYONE is talking about it :)
I don't think people are eager for the next xbox even if they are talking about it...
really now MS is paying gamestop....really? that's the best you can come up with? reality check: if MS is rumored to stop used game sales. it will only hurt gamestop and no amount of money givin from MS will stop the decline in their business.which is to sell "used games" and is MS decides to stop used games. do you really think sony wouldn't be far behind since they also lose money from use games. seriously people don't even try to use their brains these day
i'm sure they will, they've always had the best marketing.
Why leave out the important part of the quote? "And as much as some have discounted the Wii U already and think the launches of new consoles from Sony and Microsoft will make Wii U irrelevant, Raines knows better than to count Nintendo out. "This industry has a lot of cynicism and people love to say stuff isn't going to work, but we think the Wii U is a real console that's been disappointing for a couple months, but we think there's more there when the first-party titles come out. Nintendo's got a few up their sleeve," he said." Remember 3DS and it's slow start? What is it doing now? Nintendo has been in this for the longest time, so I wouldn't under-estimate them.
Cool I should expect an $80 price cut at E3! Right?
Lol you just got burned. No way a price cut is coming with retailers and Nintendo already taking hits lol.
"Remember 3DS and it's slow start? What is it doing now? " ...It's doing even worse... EDIT. Also, uhhh... Sony already confirmed a 60-dollar price-tag for their next-gen games...
Burn what? "And as much as some have discounted the Wii U already and think the launches of new consoles from Sony and Microsoft will make Wii U irrelevant, Raines knows better than to count Nintendo out. "This industry has a lot of cynicism and people love to say stuff isn't going to work, but we think the Wii U is a real console that's been disappointing for a couple months, but we think there's more there when the first-party titles come out. Nintendo's got a few up their sleeve," he said.
The next Xbox will be so powerful it will make a high end PC look like a 32bit console in comparison. It will introduce the first Holodeck gaming machine and it will come with Kinect 2.0 with AI HAL 1000 which is so power full that it can actually predict the future. It will be a landmark advancement in many field of technology. It will propel Microsoft to world domination.
I guess at least 8 people don't subscribe to your brand of humor, lol.
Ha ha ha! Man you crazy !)
no it wont. it doesnt have 8gb of DDR5.
Very hot? I hope it doesnt overheat like the old 360
Ha!! Jokes on you cus my first 360 broke way before it had a chance to overheat!!! I kid!! I kid!!
BTW his optimism towards the new Xbox means MS is not blocking used games.
lol you should reed what this same ceo has to say about the wiiu as he is so excited for it he craps his pants?? lol according to him the wii-u is a real next-gen console. sure it is. but can it do nexgen graphics??
I wonder how different/similar it will be from PS4. I think with the open, developer focused approach Sony is taking, Microsoft may have to open up. Indies do not like MS...
My guess is similar, but more economically priced hardware (similar enough to run the same games), and a focus instead going on bundling kinect with every system and pushing for the device to be an entertainment hub. Expect a big focus on media, not just games.
Sony had to go on the charm offensive with indies with the PS4, considering how they treated them in the past year... https://twitter.com/superer... https://twitter.com/superer...
Those tweets are bullshit by a Kotaku writer. -Sanzaru is already working on a new project for Sony. -Nihilistic im glad they almost got destroyed. -Superbot has themselves to blame Sony advertised the hell out of PSASBR but alot of stuff was missing polish. -Lightbox should have made Warhawk 2 wasnt impressed by Starhawks RTS stuff. -Jaffe leaving eat sleep play days before twisted metal shipped, didnt help nor did trying to run the studio from home help.
"Indies do not like MS." Yet! there are more indie games and devs on the 360 than any other console this gen.
They also have the most financially indie friendly console platform. Nobody else offers $100 for full publishing rights on consoles, and look what that got MS? Nothing, but a bad reputation. Should have done what the other console manufacturers do, charge thousands of dollars for the dev kit *AND* be selective at the same time. That will SHUT THEM INDIES UP!
That Durango, he's so hot right now! The quote below makes me excited to see what they've got in store, can't wait! "They are doing some really cool stuff, and I'm eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice,"
Hansel, he's so hot right now. Hansel.
Don't ask questions. Just give in to the power of the tea.
come on get real like the world is going to stand up and say wow!! really?? whatever. what ells is he going to say? i left the meeting and crapped my pant because it was so funny??
Or he could just say nothing, wait for MS announcement/reveal, see the feedback, then comment. Why is it so hard to believe that the next xbox might be amazing? You know if the next xbox is on par or even slightly better spec wise then the PS4, doesn't mean it will be better in the long run. It's clear E3 is the big day and until then, just wait to see it before you write them off.
sure M$ could have something great and i'm not worried at all about whatever the outcome might be of the next generation. (really could care less) i'm just saying that what this guys says is just comical kinda like Micheal patcher, total nonsensical. its just funny how people cling to his every word while it's obvious he over dramatizing. come on the world will stop, and stand up to look at what M$ has for a next-gen console?? really?? it's funny come on..
Talk's cheap, want to see what they got before getting excited.
Did he just confirm that it red rings?
Haha. Yeah "hot" may not be the best word to use when it comes to Xbox hardware!
lol nice one!
no i think he just confirmed the ps4 will fail
7+ Agrees... And every single one who did is a total tool of a person, forever.
april fools still?
Considering all the negativity surrounding the next xbox from websites that are simply guessing and looking at these "leaked documents" which could have been easily made up, one positive thing comes up for the next xbox from someone who probably has talked to microsoft about the next xbox and seen it and you want to cast it aside??
Youre an april fool
If it does cater to the casual fitness fanbase it will get massive sales. Microsoft markets very well with relentless commercials.
Since when do we care about what GameStop says?
since gamestop exists
Well...they are in one of the top positions to have actual information about the next xbox, considering their significant hand in the distribution of video gaming hardware and software....so, I wouldn't completely dismiss them.
True. When I managed a GameStop we knew a lot of things before they were announced. That's the one thing I miss.
BS, the dudes that run it don't care, and the people that work there know as much as you and I. Which is squat.
@Mikey Mike So...are you a top Gamestop/Microsoft exec/ceo that has all the insider info and knows what has been discussed behind closed doors about the next xbox??
Only information I got was what quota I had to fill each month...
Which explains why you dont work there anymore
Did you ask this question when they said the same thing about the PS4?
I'm genuinely happy I didn't buy the Wii U, Nintendo needs to get their crap together and release some real hardware. Until then, I'm holding back my cash.
Hopefully Nintendo shows some of its exclusives at E3 with solid release dates.
$70 games next gen. $30 season passes.
You should feel lucky, in Australia it's $80-100 a game and a season pass for something like Black Ops 2 is around 4000 points (Around $67AUD) on live!!!
Games here in the netherlands are a bit pricy as well, costing 60€ which i think is around 75-80$ But you should buy your points online man, you get the code in the mail for about 45$ for 4200 points. That season pass price of 4000msp is world wide, its ridiculous, especially concidering that they only released one map pack so far and are already talking mw4
Well good. As long as they don't insult me to my face again like they have the past two generations by charging $60 for basic P2P online connectivity and applications such as Facebook and Netflix that are free on every single device besides Xbox consoles. The other features are great and as an overall service XBL is fantastic, but the entry barrier being $60 to use P2P technology? how in the world...? That, as well as hardware reliability and their casual gamer focus are my only other priority issues that would get in the way of a purchase from me. Bring the games too Microsoft, cause I know you will! But seriously, I don't get how Microsoft can get away with charging for P2P technology and free apps - goes right against consumer standards. And their fans don't have the self-respect to say no to that. PC guys said no a few years back and much respect to them. @ disagrees, I'd like a response, because I never seem to get one when I bring up this particular topic.
Live looks ridiculous in comparison to PS Plus but MS is unlikely to change.
When u purchased ur nice tv to game on, did it come with cable/satelite channels or did u have to subscribe to a service?
Mine came with freeview, so yes it did come with extra channels :)
Interesting example you chose. NOT ONE smart TV manufacturer charges you to access Facebook, Youtube, Pandora, or any other Internet content through the TV. Not one.
But the TV isn't charging me a yearly fee to view the satellite which I already am paying for. With XBL, you are paying for the internet and then the right to use the internet on your 360. And smart tv's these days don't charge you to use their Netflix and facebook apps. They are free as long as you have an internet connection.
So what did I ask for and what did I get? I asked for responses and I got one. The rest of you who disagreed proved you're loyalist sheep, willing to take that shaft deep for the sake of loyalism. @ The guy with the Halo avatar: Well done buddy, you've taken one of the stupidest justifications I've heard on this topic and repeated it. Luckily, the rest of the guys below you have common sense and integrity enough to admit the truth. Cable/satellite channels require a subscription because the provide content that isn't provided by your ISP, plus like others have said, Freeview exists. Do you know what P2P functionality is and how it works? On the Xbox 360, to play online games you pay Microsoft 60 bucks and then to connect, more often than not, a person hosts the online game and they are the host, then people connect to play via that person's connection, so their console is basically the server. That is P2P and do you think it costs Microsoft to you to be able to do that? Because it doesn't. They've got the unknowing majority exactly where they want them, which is basically holding the online connection to games you have already spent $60 on for ransom. And how on god's green earth can Microsoft get away with adding a pay-wall for free apps?? FREE APPS! Just how? Who are they paying off? Let me know why you people let Microsoft get away with such disgraceful consumer practices. Most people seem not smart enough to realise and those that do know but decide to sweep it under the rug just proved that they don't stand up for their characters to say no to something that is beyond a joke. Call this fanboyism all you want, but I want exposure on this because people are just ignoring it. I want to know how it's being ignored, I want people not to HAVE to pay for the privilege of playing games with their friends, and I want to own an Xbox console.
I see what ur saying but A) as a gamer, I already know I can expect to spend x amount of $ on my favorite hobby and B) I'm still using my LCD tv from 2008. F*** a smart t.v. What is ur response to gamers that say they prefer the 360 controller and all their friends are already on live? For the price of one game I can play online? Not a big deal to me. At the core of it, a t.v. is JUST a box until u hook it up to w.e cable service provider. To max it's use, I gotta subscribe. Right? LIVE bunches all ur apps in a clean, sleek fashion and from the get go that was their plan.
I expect 5 TB at least and 16 GB RAM at least
keep on dreaming
Hot? I'll wait for them to sort out the hardware, and buy at the first refresh. Got burnt on 5 360's RRODing, 2 PS3 fat's YLODing (after a firmware update), and one Wii overheating due to the connect24 bug. All my consoles now stay unplugged till they are used. The previous generation was a lot more solid, though the PS2 had like 9 refreshes and the x-box had 5. Not sure on how many the gamecube had.
It's time to stop using your systems on a carpet.
