IGN- Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory Review

IGN:Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory completely submerges you in its woeful dialogue and barely lets you up for air. If it would just shut up for a bit, it might have a case as a respectable RPG adventure. Sadly, a decent combat system and a mildly amusing premise do not a good game make, and humble ambitions do little to excuse how poorly these characters, quests, and graphics are crafted. (Hyperdimension Neptunia, PS3) 5.4/10

I am gonna defend these games until the day i die it would seem. That games like these from companies like Idea Factory, Compile Heart, Gust are not as bad as people would think if you look at them for what they are.

First of all these companies do not have the budget of developers with AAA finances. They have to work with what they got & sometimes the graphical premise of the game is for a reason. If you are a fan of crazy over the top anime like Lucky Star, or Azumanga Diaoh than people will appreciate the looks of the game.

Second these games cater to the VERY niche otaku market that is very popular in Japan. Of course when they get translated over that the dialogue is over the top...play these games in the original Japanese than people will get the plot. People complain about a game not having dual audio but when a game does have it, people complain about the dialogue.

There is a reason the western market gets these games cause there is a very specific market that appreciates low budget, over the top, anime tropes, kinda games. Actually these games do better in the west than they do Japan cause publishers like NISA know the audience of these games & cater to them.

If big review sites like IGN, Gamespot did not like the other 2 games than why bother having a review cause these games are more of the same for the fans. If you are not a fan of these games save your opinions cause the fans of these games do not care about them.

We love these games, I love these games cause i support small developers that TRY to be different. Sorry rant over.

Don't try to bunch IF/CH and Gust together, please. Gust actually makes decent, competent and fun games.

I am just saying they are all small development companies but now Gust has the financial backing now being owned by Tecmo Koei.

IF/CH know their audience & that is why they continue to make the games they do. Just cause so often that many of them just do not make sense to many western media/gamers doesn't mean that they are mediocre games. They are different & are VERY Japanese cause ummmm 'News Flash' they are made in Japan with that culture in mind.

For example that game by CH called Monster Monpiece. All we have seen of that game is the rubbing of the screen that has a often well endowed female character. If you look past that mechanic the game is actually very good. The music is spectacular & the gameplay is very deep & engaging for a 'card' game. If that game ever makes it over, how much you wanna bet that these western media will harp on the 'screen rubbing'.

All i am saying is the majority of these games simply are not given a decent chance by people who just do not get the audience these games are for.

If people hate these games than fine but at least acknowledge that there is an audience for these games & it doesn't mean that they should be embarrassed to play them or make them feel like they should be embarrassed.

I am with you on this one. I am playing Victory (my first HDN game, actually) out of curiosity and loving it. Wish I discovered this franchise sooner though. :(

I like this game for being what it is, such as crazy dialogue, fun characters, and fun storyline despite gameplay issues.
