No competitive multiplayer in Thief, but there is online

Eidos Montreal has no plans for competitive multiplayer in the new Thief game. There will, however, be an online component. (PC, PS4, Thief)

agreed as well, some games that include a multi-player just are not meant for it. The same goes for the game Thief

I would of hated if they put multiplayer on it, i dont understand why developers or mostly publishers want to put Multiplayer on everything.
