BioShock Infinite Review: A Gleaming City of Unrealized Potential | GameFront

GameFront: "BioShock Infinite is a great game you should play. It’s also monotonous, rehashes far too much of its six-year-old predecessor, and begs the question of what could have been." (BioShock: Infinite, PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 80/100

There's untapped potential with a few characters and enemies, but what's there is nothing to scoff at. It's still a good story, though I still prefer Bioshock 1.

I haven't yet played the game... it's waiting on my shelf at this very moment...

But surely unrealised potential in such a game can be a good thing? In a medium where sequels are generally improvements over their predecessors (something you don't often find in films), surely it's good to leave something for the future?

Or am I misunderstanding this title? I don't want to read the review for fear of spoilers. Just wondered people's opinions on this.

I think you are misunderstanding it.

For one, he's comparing Columbia to Bioshock and finds that the setting doesn't have the same punch, though he does admit it's gorgeous looking.

He's also pointing out that the themes in the game are motifs instead of an actual commentary with a message.

It's hard to summarize the entire article, it's a long read, but a good one, and I mostly agree with the author's points, no spoilers in it though so you're safe.

OK, thanks. Does seem like I've misunderstood it a little from the title!

Gaming as a medium still has a long way to go before it can produce products as poignant and subtle as the film and book industries. At least we're gradually moving in that direction!

The game after 5 hours played I give it a 10 out 10.
Even that the Move support on it is totaly broken atm.

Hopefully they will patch it before I get the plat trophy like it happened to me before with Resistance 3.

I think given the changes over the years in this games development and it's ending, I think they realized that it was overly ambitious. That said, It's my favorite Bioshock game and possibly fps ever for it addresses themes and concepts rarely touched in the industry. Bioshock was a fun game, but I'm not one for nostalgia to sway my comparison.

I could not keep my hands out of the bins. It was quite distracting, actually.

Its a fantastic game but i'm disappointed some of the early design was cut or switched around

Finished the game today and I can assure you that this game is not a 10/10 or perfect. Maybe close but not perfect. The game's strength is the story[which in my opinion is the biggest], the environment/the world and creative game-play.
