UnReal Engine 4 Running On PlayStation 4 in Real Time, According to Epic

You may have seen this graphics demo before. It shows off the Unreal Engine 4, the next-gen graphics tech from the company behind Gears of War, Infinity Blade and the graphics engine that runs a lot of modern PC and console games. But if you saw it before, you saw it running on a PC. Now you can see it running on Sony's next console. (Epic, PS4, Unreal Engine 4)

If Epic are right, this is an amazing engine and I cannot wait to see the full game at E3
IronFistChinMi  +   1050d ago
There won't be a full game of this, it's just a demo.
WeskerChildReborned  +   1050d ago
It's just a tech demo demonstrating what they can achieve though it does look interesting.
Ezz2013  +   1050d ago
i don't know
not impressed by it
Looks worse than the games we already saw in the system.

and those games are not even using the ps4 final kit

Agreed. Not terribly impressive. But this is early stuff we're seeing. I'm sure it'll look much better later on.
DeadlyFire  +   1049d ago
They are not using UE 4 either. Epic might have lost its touch with game engines.

Still not bad though for the amount of lighting details, physics, and a graphics improvement its pretty impressive. If you narrow down physics as some games just don't have them. Then it could look a bit better I am betting.
Donnieboi  +   1049d ago
Don't forget to watch in HD.
ThanatosDMC  +   1049d ago
I hope they stop using Bloom effects on everything.
thechosenone  +   1050d ago
U4 doesn't support dynamic lighting on not want!
Ezz2013  +   1050d ago
i hope that this engine no 3rd party dev buy it
because i want every 3rd party dev to build their own engine
to get what they can from the consoles

I take it from your comment that you have no concept of the cost involved in every single dev creating their own engine. And u think that it will actually lead to much better results also?! For the massive studios maybe, but what about everyone else. I've just realised I'm wasting time writing this, you're truly a lost cause
IRetrouk  +   1050d ago
Now thats a leap i am willing to pay for, bring it sony, i got some money for you.

Not even final dev kit specs yet

Saving for PS4...preordering....
starchild  +   1050d ago
Looks amazing. Just as good as the PC demo. Different lighting, but no less impressive.
robleroy  +   1050d ago
certainly not good as the pc demo.
And it certainly does not stand out against the other ps4 demo's of killzone and all the other ones shown at 20 feb.
a very rushed job just to get the engine sold to ps4 game developers.

I also remembered a very promising xbox game which got wasted because of the unreal engine issues (they licensed the wrong build).

I noticed that there a lot less PS4 games in development with the unreal4 engine at this moment.
Maybe they are trying to sell as fast....
primal carnage (genesis) is the only one I know

Maybe Unreal turned into Microsoft. Just caring about quantity rather than quality..
Gears of War 3 also wasn't what we're used to..
You really noticed someone has left the building and took the time to just enjoy life and his Porsche... (Blizinski!!!!.......WHY???)
Qrphe  +   1050d ago
I agree. The ported demo looks rushed and it ran on hardware that was supposed to match PS4 at the time.
cyguration  +   1050d ago
Lamborghini...not Porsche.
robleroy  +   1050d ago
Boy , Does that Unreal engine look weak on the ps4
Seems the unreal engine isn't AAA anymore..
frostbite ,Fox engine and even the unknown killzone engine are looking better then this unreal 4 ps4 demo.

Seems that the UNreal engine already needs to be upgraded to 5...
Insomnia_84  +   1050d ago
The Fox Engine is pretty crazy! that one impressed me.
KwietStorm  +   1050d ago
What about the new tech demo? Infiltrator, is it? THAT looks better than most full games.

Supermax  +   1050d ago
Infiltrator is also unreal 4 rumors say its a new fps ip for xbox720
killasder  +   1050d ago
Stop spreading lies bro. Thats a tech demo. Just like the samaritan demo..
KwietStorm  +   1050d ago
Right. Where are the links to these rumors?
Truehellfire  +   1050d ago
The engine looks great at certain parts and then horrible on others. The worst part is at 2:18. The chasm almost looks like last gen.
leogets  +   1050d ago
how is that running on ps4? does ps4 have windows? or am I missing something here?
Arai  +   1050d ago
I can only hope more developers move away from using UE in favor CryEngine 3 or proprietary ones.
UE is meant to be scalable through all platforms and while it does look good, it by no means look as good as proprietary ones.
ApolloTheBoss  +   1050d ago
I've got the cash, just name your price, Sony.

I'm pro PlayStation 4 and reading these comments makes me very sad. If you're going to comment you should know what you're talking about and the people above obviously didn't do any research.

from what we know this video or tech demo is running off of the PlayStation 4 dev kit the question is which dev kit are we seeing? the reality is what is being shown is using a 1.5 gig of ram dev kit so this is an older version and not even close to the 4 to 8 gig dev kits that are currently out there.

so this means that what we are seeing is not even close to the for potential of the Unreal Engine 4. When it launches a game on the PlayStation 4 it will have more particle effects and better lighting aka dynamic lighting.

robleroy  +   1049d ago
Then they should not have showed it
HiddenMission  +   1049d ago
They only showed it to demonstrate how quick and easy it was for epic to get UE 4 running on PS4 in a matter of a couple of weeks...not to show that it was rivaling PC performance because that will take optimization and even then PS4 wont match 100% of course
die_fiend  +   1049d ago
How do you know that epic are using an old dev kit with 1.5 gbs? You read somewhere that the old dev kits were using that but do you think that thinks are gonna look 4x as good as this? Think you need to do a little less 'research' and a little more using your brain. Get outta here
HiddenMission  +   1049d ago
Actually I am using my brain you should try and heres why Skyrim...

Yeah Skyrim on the 360 versus PS3 is a clear example of how RAM plays a huge roll in either random effects or large effects loading.

RAM is what devs have been asking for more of because for console gaming it making things like dynamic lighting quick texture loading and even more particul effects possible...

So yeah use your brain before commenting
die_fiend  +   1049d ago
When did I say RAM isn't important? I know all the things you're what you just replied you and you might finally realise your idiocy. And it's spelt 'role you halfwit
HiddenMission  +   1049d ago
You shouldn't talk might to re-read what you wrote cause the way I'm typing on my tablet so not really focusing on the proof read.

OT: If you know everything I said then you would know that you owned yourself not me...RAM equals performace and quality so going from 1.5 gigs of RAM to 8 makes a world of difference and I dont think you grasp yeah we're done here.
die_fiend  +   1048d ago
Yeah I'm writing on my tablet too dipshit, mine is a typo, yours is a spelling mistake. I can tell because you're a half wit.

How many times do I need to say that I know that RAM is important? Some children never learn. What I was waiting for was a response to my question. I'll write it out again for you, read slow ok?

'How do you know that epic are using an old dev kit with 1.5 gbs?'

Oh look, you're out of bubbles

Early dev kits shipped with 1.5GB of RAM? Where did you get that number? At the very least they would have shipped with 4GB, since early dev kits are just PC's built to spec. More than likely it had more, since dev kits also ship with extra RAM to provide for debugging tools and unoptimized code.

I believe your confusing the KZ dev who said their game was only using 1.5GB's of RAM for their game when it was shown as an actual number available to devs. Just because the memory is there, doesn't mean that the resources have to utilize it all. Even your standard PC doesn't use up all it's memory under normal operating conditions.

OT: Haven't been following the UE4 development much, but seems to me that this was likely a quick showing of them implementing the engine on the PS4. Epic's tech demo's tend to be much better done, and this only showed the bare minimum compared to their other console demos of the past.

Sony 1st party engines will shit on this.
kingPoS  +   1049d ago
Cool! I get to see a devs tools in action.

Aside from the tech demo, Why won't they make unreal tournament 4. It doesn't make much sense to me to name the engine after the game, but leave game in question... hanging.

Who says they aren't? Every version of UT has been released upon the arrival of the new engine.

On the other hand, maybe people don't care much about Unreal anymore. I don't recall UT3 being terribly least on consoles.
MasterCornholio  +   1049d ago
Looks good to me.

I would love another unreal tournament.
