The two gentlemen are close friends so far I know, so it wouldn't come as a surprise if Shenmue 3 ends up being a PS4 exclusive.
ScubbaSteve  +   975d ago
It would be a surprise, because that would mean it would be getting made which I'm sure would surprise everyone.
Marcello  +   975d ago
We still havent heard anymore from this possibility that was mentioned last year. Shenmue on XBLA.

So now its Shenmue on PS4 ??? being a Shenmue fan is very frustrating :(
zeeshan  +   975d ago
They should release shenmue 1 and 2 on psn and test the waters. If it sells then it will give them confidence about s3 success.

Shenmue 3's biggest selling potential is on playstation. No need to explain why it's common sense.

@Marlec Most Shenmue fans played it on the dreamcast.
Marcello  +   975d ago
Yes i know that Ryo, i was one of those who played it on Dreamcast. All i am trying to say is, in that interview the guy said that Shenmue would be next for HD treatment. Now were getting a new rumor its gonna be for PS4. Its been 12 years now we have been waiting for Shenmue 3, its damn frustrating.

Why are ppl disagreeing with my earlier comment ?? do you like being messed about ?? i dont care which platform it comes to aslong as it comes
sinncross  +   975d ago

I hope youre right, Shenmue on ps4 would shake the gaming industry!!
DigitalRaptor  +   975d ago
Ung... this news and your comment put a lump in my throat. If some sort of deal goes through for PS4 + Shenmue, i really don't know how I'd react.

It would be a mixture of amazement, relief, happiness. I'd just probably laugh in everyone's faces. ;)

The industry would indeed be shaken by that megaton. Either way this is another score for the PS4 hype train.

It would be great, all they have to do is market it right, and sony is pretty good at marketing.
fei-hung  +   975d ago
Is it moneyhatting if you pay for it since no one has touched this franchise for around a decade?!

I need to see this story conclude! I don't care what platform it comes out on.

Xbots wont be happy about this. Time to redefect to sony again since majority of 360 owners are ps2 owners
fooltheman  +   975d ago
If the maker gets the rights to Shenmue, maybe Sony can invest in the promising views of that visionary.

Sony always try to work with visionaries.
NYC_Gamer  +   975d ago
I just want Shenmue 3 to exist regardless of platform
Droid Control  +   975d ago
Oh god, PLEASE let this happen!

I will buy 10 copies, 10 PS4's!
telekineticmantis  +   975d ago
so I'm guessing
if this is true, we won't get to see it at E3, and have to wait? SMH

Shenmue III may sink the PS4 like it did with the Dreamcast, but boy what a beautiful way to go.
GABRIEL1030  +   975d ago
Shemue didn't sunk Dreamcast, was Metal Gears Solid 2 and the poor third parties support. Dreamcast was a great device that hadn't luck. Is like the Wii U right now, a nice device but haven't got the enough support from the big companies like EA, Activision, Square and for the Nintendo itself.

When the Dreamcast was released, Sony showed a Game video of MGS 2 and all the people forgot the Sega machine and focused in the PS2 launch.

nice to ear, that Sony will rescue this great franchise.

"Yu Suzuki, the man behind Shenmue and many of Sega’s golden age coin-ops, has said he wants to buy the license for the game from Sega and make his own sequel to the cult series."

It could very well happen, even if it's a rumor right now.
My point being is that YS has been vocal about wanting to make Shenmue 3 for a while now.
talocaca  +   975d ago
I personally wouldn't buy Shemue 1-2 if released on PSN but would buy three based on the reception it gets.
GABRIEL1030  +   975d ago
What a nice surprise....Cerny has made a great job¡
izumo_lee  +   975d ago
One of the smartest moves Sony has done is making Mark Cerny as the lead architect of the PS4. The guy is a legend in the industry & one of the most respected.

Being a developer himself Mark Cerny probably has a lot of connections in the industry so this news is not really a surprise. What may come out of it is anyone's guess but it is a good sign that Shenmue may be revived.

I am going to play Shenmue 2 on my Xbox 360 to catch up on the current event until Shenmue III.
DigitalRaptor  +   975d ago
If you want a better experience play it on the DC.

The English voice acting is atrocious for both games, but luckily the PAL version of S2 had Japanese VA, and it was sooo much better for it. I hope Shenmue III on PS4 has both options.

I think the Xbox version has superior graphics though right?

how come you guys care so much about Shenmue but ignore its spiritual successor, Yakuza series? I think there are a bunch of bandwagoners here.
Droid Control  +   975d ago
how come you guys care so much about Shenmue but ignore its spiritual successor, Yakuza series? I think there are a bunch of bandwagoners here.

Because the two games are completely different. Shenmue was revolutionary - still it in fact. Its a game that's ultimately about finding inter peace and contentment, about moving on and living a peaceful life (or will be when Shenmue 3 is released)about teaching a player about honour, respect, and the value of familiy and friendship. The other is about beating people up because your character is a douche.
ThePsychoGamer  +   973d ago
Before you talk about a franchise, you probably to at least play a game in said franchise, otherwise other wise you will end up spouting some ignorant BS.

You know like you just did with the Yakuza. Anyone who actually played a game in the , yes revolutionary, Yakuza series could tell you never actually played a Yakuza game.
akiraburn  +   975d ago
I'm sorry to interject here, but I'm a huge Yakuza fan, probably one of the biggest fans (at least in the west), however I'm also excited for this information. From all that I've read, Toshihiro Nagoshi (creator of Yakuza) was actually the supervisor on the original Shenmue. It's likely that he gained inspiration for the Yakuza series from that experience. But this is an article speculating on the idea of Shenmue getting a sequel and some new attention, as well as the possibility of it being at least on PS4 as one of it's platforms, so it's understandable that people are talking more about Shenmue here than Yakuza. On that note however, given their prior working relationship, it could be a really great turn-out if Yu and Toshihiro were able to work together on some new projects.

@Droid Control, I could understand if you weren't a fan of the Yakuza games, but it sounds like you just haven't had any actual experience with the Yakuza series. All of the comments you made about Shenmue like "teaching a player about honor, respect, and the value of family and friendship" can be applied to the Yakuza series as well.

Without offering too much in the way of spoilers... it's for those same reasons why Kiryu moves out of Kamurocho and opens an orphanage, why he takes care of Haruka and all the other children like his own, why he constantly puts himself in compromising situations, risking tremendous personal injury to try and prove that even some of the worst people have some goodness within them, and why you spend a good portion of the game taking on side-quests to help people even with personal problems that a normal guy wouldn't take on.

So it's not just "beating people up" (although even on this topic, nearly all the fights you get into are caused by others who confront you and want pick a fight, not because your character is just a jerk). The main point of this I'd like to make is that both Shenmue and Yakuza are amazing series and they can co-exist and there's no need to bad-mouth one over the other.

[whistles] Whew... that guy's got a rap sheet a mile long. And that's a good thing. If there's anyone that can help make Shenmue III happen, it's Mike Cerny.

It also wouldn't hurt if Shenmue 1+2 were brought to live & psn.
