The 5 golden rules of zombie fiction (that so many games ignore)

James O'Connor: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct left such a bad taste in my mouth, especially after the numerous pleasures of Telltale’s episodic outing (which actually hits every single rule I’ve outlined below), that I couldn’t help but reflect on the rules of zombie fiction that are so often ignored by games about zombies.

That’s not to say that there aren’t many good games out there about zombies (Left 4 Dead succeeds despite ignoring most of these), but rather that a lot of games use zombies without fully grasping their fundamental appeal. (Culture, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct)

Excellent article, well worth a read. This is why I'm so stoked about the Last of us. From what we know so far, it nails all the points that the article raises, And I'm willing to bet either Joel or Ellie gets infected by the end of it. Hey, I haven't played it so I could be wrong.
