Take a look at nearly 60 brand new concept art pieces from Destiny.
I'm a little concerned that this game will... lack focus. Obviously it has sci-fi, but there's a lot of fantasy mixed in. It's like they couldn't make up there mind if they wanted to emulate Guild Wars or re-do Halo. How is that going to mix in with the shooter gameplay, I wonder? Everyone gets a sword instead of a bowie knife? Space Crossbows have clips of bolts? I like my Final Fantasy in my Final Fantasy, where its okay to be Japanese and a little odd, to me, as a Westerner. Who knows though, maybe it'll be great. I guess the story can have all sorts of wierd junk in it, though. If they can't solve problems by reversing the chrono-polaron beam with the main deflector dish, I guess they can cast a spell to fix things, if you get my meaning. I'm just not sure if that kind of loose reality will make for a decent story. City of Heroes was kinda bad for the same reason -- it was fun at first, but it just didn't hold together. It eventually seemed like random art tossed over a bland game, because they had to excuse just about anything happening.
It looks to have a lot of Star Wars influence, which also had a lot of fantasy mixed in. And we all know how well Star Wars caught on. ;) I honestly don't doubt Bungie's ideas with this one. I personally have never liked the Halo franchise, but I absolutely respect it. I have played them all (except 4 so far) and agree that they are all well made games. They have just never been for me. With Destiny, it looks like Bungie has finally been given the creative freedom they have wanted for a long time to make something truly epic.
1st day for me¡
Never liked Halo either, but this is some of the best concept art I've ever seen. They've got me interested at least.
Gorgeous art. Bungie does a great job illustrating its ideas. Hopefully the actual game translates this art well.
