We had the opportunity to ask the heads of some of Sony's most high-profile in-house development studios, including Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch, what they thought of the PlayStation 4. Their answers speak to their enthusiasm for a system that should give developers a lot of power and flexibility.

"Being built like a high-end PC"

Oh what's this? Not a low or mid-end PC you say?

Jaqen_Hghar1219d ago

bah what does a developer know!? A man trusts the company that is bitter about not being able to make a console.

Cupid_Viper_31219d ago

Another man appreciates your sarcasm... haha.

WUTCHUGUNNADO1218d ago

Who can you trust... Developers getting their checks signed by sony, bitter companies or actual hands on experience which no one will have until it actually releases.

shoddy1218d ago

You get what you pay for.
If it's the highest end pc it'll be $2000.

Quit whining.

AnyaShroud1218d ago (Edited 1218d ago )

don't need to trust what other people tell you, just look up the similar specs on PC

a 1.8 TFlops GPU would be equivalent to a Radeon 7850, which is about $180 now, is that high end?

an AMD 8-core processor would be like a FX-8120, (this one runs at 3.1Ghz, not just 1.6-2.0Ghz but let's ignore that), which is $160, is that high end?

and we found out PS4's CPU is not going to utilize the full GDDR5 bandwidth and only using 20-25Gbs, so only the GPU will get GDDR5 bandwidth, the CPU gets the same bandwidth as DDR3.

Consoles aren't built like PC's so you cannot directly compare them.

Hence why a game like God of War Ascension works on 8 year old tech with 512mb of ram where as a PC would need at least 2GB to get the same visuals and performance.

Here's a good article that explains why PC and consoles are so different in tech.

A man forgets...isn't there some other console that's supposed to be coming this Fall? Eh a man doesn't care at this point. PS4 will be a man's console day 1!

ILive1219d ago

Game of thrones this week, jaqen. Are you going to back this season?

Jaqen_Hghar1219d ago

a man shouldn't be featured until season 5 (book 4) but a man may show up in a show

Meanwhile here's everything we know about 720 :

"I think Sony is really in to win this one. I’m good friends with a lot of guys at Microsoft, I’m under their NDA flag, and Microsoft definitely has a different outlook than Sony does."

Aceman181218d ago

question does it sound like it's more gaming focused?

Conzul1218d ago

if(Sony == games_focused && M$ == different_outlook)
cout << "No, it's ISN'T gaming focused. Silly";

DigitalRaptor1218d ago (Edited 1218d ago )

Based on that quote, I'm struggling to think what's better than:

- Developers showing HUGE support and enthusiasm, leading to what can only be an easy development process for a console with lots of raw potential. Room for serious innovation.
- Removal of concept approval for games, so PS4 is looking incredibly approachable from a developer standpoint.
- Big focus on indie development impressively, same as above regarding accessibility. The Witness.
- Powerful specs for better looking and playing games, with next to no significant drain on system resources.
- Standardization across games and features, such as Vita Remote Play support being adhered to for near enough every PS4 game.
- On the forefront with of one of the biggest strengths in cloud gaming.
- A console with the architectural stability to provide instantaneous gaming sessions, and multitasking OS.
- The company admitting past mistakes and tackling a new generation with a fresh outlook that is as clear as day positive.

That focus is SQUARELY on games and services that impact the gaming session.

How can an outlook be different to that in a way that is anyway near to "going in the right direction"? I'll take a few stabs at where I think Microsoft are coming from:

- Cable box/service deals.
- "Entertainment" machine.
- Kinect
- More ways to pay for things that should be free.
- Blocking of used games.

Food for thought.

Umm..the new Infamous is set in Seattle???? Yes! That's my hometown!

WeAreLegion1218d ago

I would have assumed Montana from the whole "camping" thing.

starchild1218d ago

Why? I lived in the Pacific Northwest for years and it has some of the best camping to be found anywhere.

On topic, the PS4 sounds fantastic all around. I mostly game on the PC, but PS4 will definitely be my main console. I can't imagine anything that Microsoft could announce that would change my opinion.

WeAreLegion1217d ago

I absolutely agree. ^_^ I just enjoy Montana the most, as far as camping goes.
