GDC 2013: Facebook confirmed for the PlayStation 4 - Pixel Enemy

Today, Sony provided a technical blue print for developers during their panel at GDC 2013. Chris Norden, Senior Staff Engineer hosted the panel and went over much of the same information that was given to us during late February’s reveal of the PlayStation 4, but this time it was geared towards developers. Norden during his panel, he confirmed that Facebook will indeed make its way onto the PlayStation 4.

The one thing that seriously worries me about the PS4 is this move towards social gaming. If anything destroys SP its that.

Dwalls11711887d ago

Social features are an option dude.... lol sony is not gonna force you to upload a video

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante1887d ago

Sony is already forcing social features on people by making a dedicated "Share" button. I mean nobody needs that garbage on the controller. Just hit the Playstation Button and select it.

Facebook being on PS4 just makes it even worse. I didn't want it on PS3 and I certainly wouldn't want it on PS4. I also think it's stupid that they're only selecting Facebook and not Twitter, Myspace, and all of those other casual social sites.

lodossrage1887d ago

They aren't forcing the features onto people unless you have some sort of news saying it's mandatory for people to use them.

Give me a Google Plus app instead.

know that any kind of co-op or multi-player is considered social gaming. Like with everything you have a choice. Do not confuse this with EA's "always on" DRM. One thing I did notice when they were talking about the DualShock4 was "speech recognition". Please Sony, tell me you're gonna do the "Google Now voice commands" thing on the PS4.

Heavenly King1887d ago (Edited 1887d ago )

@DONTE: dude you are saying you dont like social stuff, but you would like more social options WTH? Just stay quiet.

If you mean Single Player....I don't think social gaming destroys it. If anything, they can add social to SP. I like the fact they are being more social. I loved my PS3, don't get me wrong, I just feel it has a isolated feeling. The Vita feels more connected than the PS3. When I got my Vita day one, it was clear which direction Sony was going to go with the PS4. Vita does a good job being Social without cramming it down your throat.

Godmars2901887d ago

I think Sony and 3rd party publishers will mandate social feature interrogation in one form or another into ALL games. When that happens single player titles will effectively cease to exist.

I want to know exactly what information is sent to fb and what isn't. Fb doesn't live off air, you know.

SubtenkoGaming1887d ago

Good gosh the common sense on this people how old are you all?

Dont want to use facebook? Dont choose to share it on facebook. Dont want to use the share button at all? Dont press the dagon button... Good thing there is no auto eject couch button on the controller because yall would probably push that even if ya didnt have to :/

T21887d ago (Edited 1887d ago )

I know right are people just little bitches or just not smart?
* walks into car dealership " I like that lexus but I dont like heated seats"
Salesman - "ok sir we put them in for convenience but if you dont want them just dont
push this button"
"no! F-u im goin to buy a kia instead they dont have optional stuff I dont want !!" bout I just come to your house and tape over the share button ? Does that work for you ?

GraveLord1886d ago

Social Features are always optional. You don't even need to make a freakin' PSN account, play offline if you want to.

The cancer moves on with the next generation.

Sarobi1887d ago

I'm not against the current idea they have going.. I understand if some people do not like facebook or any type of social network tracking their progress in games.. but it really isn't that big of a deal. My facebook feed, along with a good majority of my friends, already consists of trophy/achievement notifications.

KrisButtar1887d ago

So if I'm understanding you right some of your notifications are yours and your friends trophy/achievements? How did you link your PSN ID and gamertag with the ps3/360, as my friends and I thought that would be cool, but we didn't know it could be done. Even looking at your own contact info doesn't give you an option to add your PSN or gamertag

torchic1887d ago

you kinda have to go through loopholes, signing up for different sites and then those sites feeding info to your profile.

Sarobi1887d ago

There is a site called Raptr that collects all your gamer handle information (PSN/XBL/Steam) and stores all the information on their site, which will also link to your facebook. There has been quite a few facebook apps that have been doing this.. so it isn't the newest thing to come around to.

KrisButtar1887d ago

thanks for the info, its new to me, but then again its almost been about 6 months since I was on FB. Went on it last night and it sure has changed.

GreenRanger1887d ago

A Facebook addict playing the PS4.....
*Plays game for two minutes.
*Looks at Facebook for fifteen minutes.
*Plays game for two minutes.
*Looks at Facebook for fifteen minutes.
*Plays game for two minutes.
*Looks at Facebook for fifteen minutes.
*Plays game for two minutes.
*Turns off game and spends the next fifteen hours on Facebook.

EverydayGuy1887d ago

I usually do this with PC games, because its so seamless. Wish there was a way to alt + tab without minimizing your screen though.

Reverent1887d ago

I seriously don't understand Facebook. How is it THAT entertaining to read stupid crap people post about their lives? I made a Facebook account 2 years ago and haven't even touched it since. I don't get it, I just don't get it.
