10 Reasons Why Killzone Shadow Fall Will Be PS4′s Killer Launch Title

"Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, Sony have announced the PS4, unveiling the system’s new features alongside a few select titles last month. A new Killzone was one of the highlights, and it seems set to be a defining launch title for the new system. That said, Sony seem adamant to launch their new console with a bang, so it’s unlikely to be a clean sweep for Guerilla’s fourth console Killzone game. We reckon Shadow Fall could still be the system’s killer launch title though, and here are ten reasons why." (Killzone: Shadow Fall, Next-Gen, PS4)

I think if Sony put marketing muscle and make the game KZ2-esque then Sony has a winner!
Irishguy95  +   1052d ago
It looks more Cod than Killzone to be brutally honest. Gameplay wise I mean
Good user blog on the subject ^^. The Shadow fall gameplay trailer was painfully unlike Killzone. The graphics won't be enough to mask what happened to the gameplay for me. I wonder how the casuals will react when this releases

I also hope i'm wrong Gimmemorebubblez, but you can tell how the gameplay flows from that demo, along with the Majorly over the top(albeit very cool) scene of grabbing onto the rope.

Oh it's also extremely clear it is not KZ2-esque. It did not have the weighty movement at all.

It doesn't matter if it's one section down there, it showcased the combat mechanics very clearly.

Maybe your right, maybe your wrong.
I hope your wrong because YOU CAN'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS BASED ON A VERY SHORT GAMEPLAY DEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was one section of the game also not sure how old that build was alot could of changed since than.

and yet it will still destroy any shooter"

Well as long as its as good as Killzone 2 ill be happy with this as a launch title. Wouldn't call any game the 'killer app' yet.
Sevir  +   1052d ago
It doesnt look anything like COD
For many reasons...

1. You haven't played it yourself

2. What you SAW 8 mins of pre alpha game play with plenty of time of polish.

3. It's got the Killzone Staples, Cover, sliding, and the same weighty feel just from the look of the trailer

4. Chaining kills and the brutal Kill animations already set it apart, along with the bullet time feature to make for dramatic kills, something I think was placed in to make a case for the share button.

the game may look less drab, and that's a fantastic change for a series which was always criticized for being Grey grey grey!...

Shadow Fall doesn't look KZ2-ish, but it does look better than KZ3. It might also have to do with the fact that SF takes place on Vekta and not Helgan which are two COMPLETELY different planets and environments.

As for the gameplay, it's all about the MP for me so I'll wait for gameplay footage on that before I pass full judgement.
MysticStrummer  +   1052d ago
KZ and CoD have been similar since KZ2, except for the feel of the controls and the cover system. KZ's AI is much better also.

I meant more like kz2 and less like kz3

Resistance got 4m as a new IP on what was an unsuccessful launch of a system. KZ can easily get 5m as an IP that has gotten over 2m in the middle of a cycle on what will no doubt be a better launch.
Hingle_Mcringleberry  +   1052d ago
Fall of Man didn't have much in the way of competition. The early ps3 adoptors had nothing else to play so they bought it. The franchise went downhill from there in terms of sales.
Killzone is a 3 million sales per game franchise, you're kidding yourself with that 5 million.
Outside_ofthe_Box  +   1052d ago
I know you don't like seeing PS software being successful, but KILLZONE: Shadow Fall can definitely reach 4-5 million lifetime sales if KZ2 fans are happy with KZ:SF's multiplayer. KZ3 managed to sell close to KZ2's numbers despite a lot of KZ2 fans not buying it which means a lot of new people bought it.

So if KZ2 vets end up buying KZ:SF and you add on top of that possible new people buying KZ:SF, 4-5 million lifetime sales isn't that far out of a possibility.

You may have a point but this is a new Console and I think Sony is in a much
Better position to market The game, Killzone as a franchise has a great following and fanbase, even with KZ3 being a lesser game it still managed to sell just about the same as KZ2 and that was in the midst of COD and Battlefield sting up the market near the END of a console cycle.

Here are some things to consider

1. KZ: Shadow Fall ranked only #2 the most talked about thing since the PS4 unveiling, The YouTube gameplay trailer was watched more than 4 million times and the reception has been largely positive.

2. It's a launch title, With a pretty sizable community and a pretty well established IP.

3. It looks Gorgeous and Will be marketed pretty aggressively considering
it'll be facing Next Gen releases of Battlefield and COD.

4. It's the ONLY Next Gen FPS EXCLUSIVE announced on the ONLY ANNOUNCED NEXT GEN platform currently and people are excited about it. Battlefield and COD will not have the benefit of being stand outs because they also have current gen and PC versions launching the same time. So a large number of The fan base will ignore the Next Versions because their friends will have current versions to play.

5. Sony is definately going to capitalize on the fact that Killzone:Shadow Fall will be exclusive and deliver on somethings that neither Battlefield and COD can deliver, and will likely market it as the Harbinger of the Premier Next Gen Console FPS experience you won't find from any other shooter because its really will be the only Built from the ground up PS4 Shooter unlike Battlefield which was ported from PC down.

I agree that it will have a fight on its hands because 2 other big franchises make a next gen debut, but its not solely next gen and as such they'll have a better time focusing on one platform versus EA and Activision focusing on PS3/WiiU/XB360 and PC/PS4/NextGenXbox

Jaqen_Hghar  +   1052d ago
a wise strategy. A man will do the same then get a second DS4, Watch Dogs, and Infamous Second Son for Christmas
delboy  +   1052d ago
CoD and BF4 will sell more, end of story.
Trago1337  +   1052d ago
I hope this game is a little more open ended than the other Killzone games. Getting a little tired of corridor shooters.
wishingW3L  +   1052d ago
same here. But I'm not asking for an open world game though just more open corridors. More variety to the approach.

Watch Dogs for me. KZ:SF looks very nice but also looks like a typical shooter so I'll wait on it to drop in price.
Mustang300C2012  +   1052d ago
Kill zone doesn't move consoles. The last two games prove that. It looks pretty and that is about it. Every time Killzone gets mentioned all of a sudden history is ignored. Stop hyping it more than it is. Because when it launches and doesn't sale as well as people will expect, the excuse will be either another game overshadowed it or Sony didn't market it crap
Jaqen_Hghar  +   1052d ago
you refer to two games that came out in the middle of a gen. This is the first launch KZ. I remind you that Resistance, a new IP, got 4m in sales when it was a launch title.
Mustang300C2012  +   1052d ago
Resistance was a few games plus a bundle and it doesn't mean Killzone will do the same. Hell Killzone 3 hasn't done that when the install base was at 60 millon. So saying a game does good back in 2006 which took a while for it to hit 4 million(don't know why people are trying to claim it just sold that at launch when it didn't)

Killzone is not a system seller and so far it just looks like another shooter with pretty graphics. So yeah people like to overhype with little information.
jakmckratos  +   1052d ago
The fact this game will def have multiplayer in it is also pretty important...I mean could you imagine having the supposed most social console yet and not having something to play with your'd be great if Knack and Infamous announced some sort of multiplayer component..even if it's co-op...I've ALWAYS said Infamous needed a co-op where different heroes have different abilities to adapt to different enemy types/world events.
IQUITN4G  +   1052d ago
Wasn't the first Resistance bundled quite heavily though?
koston3647  +   1052d ago
its as simple as this...

and they must be as frequent as any other AAA shooter
TheFallenAngel  +   1052d ago
I wasn't into killzone but I been playing a lot of killzone 3 lately. it needs some work but it's fun. They need to get rid of the flying robots, the infiltrators. they need to add more customization to the weapons and characters. But overall its a good game. Resistance: Fall of Man was an amazing game. I don't care what people says but that game was the bomb. All my friends still think that it was a gem this generation. I still play it sometimes.

Agree with everything you said here ... Man playing a soldier in resistance was akin to feeling godlike if you had good supports. Also kz3 had too few skill trees , maxed out in like 10th hours on multiplayer
Dj7FairyTail  +   1052d ago
Not with Call of Duty and Battlefield 3 coming at launch.
MysticStrummer  +   1052d ago
I assume you mean BF4, but when were those announced as launch titles?
Dj7FairyTail  +   1052d ago
Yeah I meant that lol
We all know those games will launch at the end of the year it factual with GTA V and AC IV
fOrlOnhOpe57  +   1052d ago
KZ:SF will be a worthy opener for the PS4. I'll bet GG are like kids in a sweet shop with all the hardware Sony has given them. And if anyone can make a jaw-dropping game, GG can.
I also think that Sony has seen the error of their ways regarding product-marketing, so I would expect to see console and games given a greater push by their new marketing agency.
plaZeHD  +   1052d ago
This game is NOT a next gen game. It really disappoints. Nothing but shooting and shiny graphics.
imsocool1234  +   1051d ago
"Nothing but shooting and shiny graphics."

No, shit!
Sevir  +   1052d ago
Its an interesting time actually but Killzone:Shadow fall has plenty going for it
Besides The PS4 announcement the only other thing that had any huge weight behind it was KZ:SF. Watchdogs arguably stole the show but KZ's announcement was also a thundering success.

It will be joined by 2 other shooters but they won't be exclusively next gen shooters, these are multiplatform release and I think given the install base of both COD and Battlefield, 90% of those fans will stick with PS3/X360.

Sony will be in a better position to market this game as a true next gen shooter built from the ground up with PS4 solely as the platform and then there is the fact that Killzone as a franchise is a known amongst the PS hardcore and has a pretty substantial following.

Sony will be calling on the Hardcore and early adopters, who generally are the ones who purchase systems at launch, and KZ:SF looks to fit the bill in every way.

Sony also benefit from being the first to announce the next gen and is in pretty great lime light with what they've shown.

KZ:SF has killzone fans froathing and new comers intrigued by its look and gorgeous showcase of visual fidelity on the Only ANNOUNCED next gen console. With an already stellar marketing firm backing Sony for this new year and beyond we are gonna see Sony in better standings than they've ever been since they launched the PS3.

Why is it always 10? Why not 9 or 11? At what number do they start tapping their pencils on the table and spinning around on their PC chairs?

I think this will be cool and all, I love killzone

the killer lauch title will be....... Infamous second son :)!
taquito  +   1051d ago
um, what else is there, that lame kids game, some turd of a racing game....., watch dogs which will be 10x better on pc obviously, ...i mean unless they launch with ff versus, (highly unlikely) the only thing worth getting on ps4 would be KZ SF, that infamous game looks awful, the other two were

maybe last guardian could be a launch, or ffxiv realm reborn, which again, will be a FAR better game on pc

i may get a ps4, but so far theres nothing for it that looks like a must have, killzone has always been a second teir shooter since ps2......dont get me wrong, it could be awesome....but.....$500-$600 for killzone...mehh.... I'll wait for the ps4 slim for $200
