Are franchises like Dead Space and Resident Evil struggling to survive the negative influences of their publishers?
I guess even since the dawn of mankind on Earth, horrors never get stuck in everyone's heart for a long time. I've been a fan of horror games and/or flicks, but I've found it difficult for developers to create survival horrors 'for all', you know what I mean... Nowadays, they're just making money without noticing what the gamers want actually. I know there are (still) some great developers, such as Naughty Dog, Valve, Rockstar Games, etc., who, without any hesitation, make 'antimainstream' games. Perhaps, it's just my two cents. Hehehe
If you want a decent upcoming Ps Vita survival horror try the Indie game named Lone Survivor. I'm looking forward to buying it because it has some serious SH vibes to it. Whatever the state of survival horrors, Silent Hill 2 will always be one of the best games I've played.
Thanks for your recommendation. Yup, SH2 is one of the best horror games out there. It's creepy and haunting. I remeber playing it when I was still a junior high student. Woah! :D
This is so true!!! They all want every game to have a MP and be a Call of Duty clone. So if you want a REAL great survival horror game I suggest getting a gaming PC. Darkwood (OMG looks like excellent gameplay) Amnesia The Dark Descent Amnesia A Machine for Pigs Pnumbra Black Plague Pnumbra Requim Pnumbra Overture Afterfall Insanity AMY Dark Fall STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl and many more
what does you last comment have to do with anything I said in the other article? Okay so I made a slight error in who Sony bought back a cell plant from. Big deal the point was they sold the factory for almost a billion then bought it back for almost half. Only fanboy here is you do.
One word...yes! Did dead space not sell well enough? Or do they look at generic action game sales and decide that those numbers minus the base fans is a good target to aim for. Its absurd. The market is saturated and the economy is bad. Why would u not want to stand out in ur genre? It perplexes me.
Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are great games. I guess the third installment does not sell well. I just played the first forty minutes, then I stopped playing until now. Dunno.
Dead space was never survival horror. Where do people get this revisionist history from? Dead space has always been action horror with creepy mooments. It was better than RE5 so people at some point decided it was survival horror. O_o
Its because of CoD, publishers see how well it SOLD and they think by making it more of a shooter, it will interest people who like shooters. I remember playing RE3, awesome horror game... I miss RE games.
In my opinion, RE4 and RE5 are still awesome games, even though the horror atmosphere is kept to the lowest level in RE5. Hahaha
Indie devs make awesome horror titles
Sony and naughty dog aint
I wish there was a Jurassic Park horror/survival game. But otherwise, we have Metro Last Light to look forward to. Not necessarily scary, but does have the same spooky atmoshpere of other horror games.
It is too bad that we are loosing some of the niche genres so that they can become this all product that everyone will enjoy. Its strange many games prove that if you do your thing and do it well then the consumers will support it. But some publishers are so terrified about sale numbers that they hamstring the franchise. Look at XCOM and Darksouls two brutal games that buck a lot of current trends both beloved by a huge fan base.
Dark souls = survival horror
Year Walk looks like an interesting horror title for all those of you who have an ipad/iphone. Looks very atmospheric. Check it out.
