God of War: Ascension – Review [Plus XP]

Leon from Plus XP writes "fter the conclusion of God of War III, it was a little bit unclear as to how the series would continue in later installments. While its ending was somewhat ambiguous and suggested there could be more to come, it was announced that the next title - God of War: Ascension - would be the first home console entry in the series to be a prequel, whereas Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta were both originally PSP titles that told sub-plots set in-between main entries.

Not only that, Ascension would be the prequel, set before any of the other games thus far, looking deeper into the roots of Kratos’ lust for vengeance. This idea excited me, as Kratos’ humanity is always something that the series could expand upon – the more we understand Kratos’ sense of loss, the more we can understand his rage. Chains of Olympus was perhaps the best example of this so far, focusing on Kratos’ relationship with his daughter, Calliope. The live action trailer for Ascension focused on his wife, child and the Spartan army – before they dissolved before his very eyes, leaving him broken and alone. I was ready to see how ‘Vengeance is Born’." (God of War: Ascension, PS3) 65/100

I just dont understand. This game is really good, despite it being the fourth console iteration. This is what god of war 3 should have been like.

God of War: Ascension is a great game. However, no. It does not come close to the quality of God of War III. GoW3 has much better sound in terms of the actual OST and the fact it never had sync/cutting out issues, gamplay/combat was better, the camera never made things tricky to see, it had a great story and it was unbelievably epic.

God of War: Ascension definitely didn't come near to the quality of God of War III but it's still a great game.

If God of War III deserves a 10/10 then God of War: Ascension would be between 8.5-9/10. Multiplayer (although great) definitely hurt the single-player experience.

what dont you understand? We all know the game is good other ppl have hidden agendas and rate it poorly based on different variables and reasons. One guy will say "its the same old thing im giving it a 65" then turn around another regurgitated game like Mario comes out and says "Oh this game is great it stays true to the formula" lol it happens all the time.

Im happy i bought it and have played tons of mp matches.

Yeah, I think the MP is really underrated. Tons of fun.

Nah its too slow, they slowed down combat for multiplayer :-(

Man, seriously. This game is incredible. If you told me it was PS4,graphics-wise, I would believe it. SSM is a victim of their own high bar. You put this out on any other console and it is GOTY nominee.
