Words Gamers Use, But Don't Understand

"Tech journalism, including gaming media, is a tricky thing. To write general world news, one doesn't usually need a great deal of insider knowledge. Just give the facts to the news man, and let him go. With tech writing, however, we find a problem. If you don't know much about the products you're describing, there's not much you can do or say that will not set off alarm bells and let everyone know that you have no idea what you're talking about. Enter the enthusiast press.

"Blogs and news websites dedicated to technology products like iPads, video games, and computer parts tend to be written by people whose biggest qualifications are how much they love the product and/or how much they know about it. Being a decent writer sits in a distant second place, where it's considered a lovely perk, but hardly a job requirement. Due to this, we see a lot of words constantly misused by gaming press and their readers alike. I've made a list of the biggest and most frequent offenders." -GR c... "Cheap tactics" = "everything you use to beat me".
"Fair tactics" = "everything I use to beat you".

"Camper", when they mean "damn, you beat me".

Add to this list, "Troll" in its internet context.

Used to mean (and still does if you use it right) someone saying outrageous things to get attention. Now it just means "anyone who disagrees with me. The stronger the disagreement, the bigger of a troll they are." -_-

I was expecting to see Hardcore Gamer on the list. Most people get that confused with Brofest Gamer...you know, I'm a hardcore gamers 'cause I like boobs and blowing things up and cussing and online death matches...no sir, you are a Brofest Gamer...someone who plays call of duty with his bros, while drinking mountain dew for double EXP, who thinks he is a Hardcore Gamer.

Hardcore Gamers play games on console regardless if they are on Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo.

I agree. Those are the types that think that they should only play M rated games because they're adults and it says 17+ on the box. They then go on to call people who play stuff like Mario and Pokemon Man children.

I saw someone not too long ago saying Nintendo needs more M rated games. Statements like that get to me regardless of platform because a game doesn't need an M rating to appeal to adults. It's sad that people game with that philosophy.

To me, a core gamer is a gamer that has been gaming for a good while, and doesn't let public perception/opinion, the console it's on, or a letter on a box dictate what he/she plays.

Actually this is just a portion of the problems. A good start.

Literally my mind was blown. Its like you're analysis of the situation was totally based off factual information.

The Revolution starts tonight, literally, on NBC.
