God of War Ascension Review | ComboCaster

God of War PS2 came in and left us all open-mouthed. With a fantastic protagonist and an original, was one of the most remarkable games of the past generation, then continue to mark consoles like the PSP and PS3 games with great quality. The story of God of War marked by revenge is not exactly rich in many details, your gameplay is indeed far superior to everything else that one can find in the game, but the thread that unites all the games in the series is interesting enough to keep us stuck to the game.

Ascension is a prequel to the trilogy that ended in 2010 with the release of God of War III. It is indeed the first since the games released for the PSP were also, but this is one that goes further back in history going back more than Kratos, shortly after the death of his family. It is also at this time that Kratos begins to doubt Ares, the God of War, and undermines the covenant he made with him. If you played the previous can see that this is so far the ultimate God of War Zero. (God of War: Ascension, PS3) 9/10

God of War Ascension to me PERSONALLY feels like it was pieced together with failed/scrapped concept art from GOW3 or ealier versions in the franchise... also feels quite un-needed in the series!

First Boss in Ascension don't feel straight like a knock off of Poseidon? just to name 1 main instance!

Even if u feel that way all the work put into god of war ascension is not just an addon. The boss battles alone make every other boss fight on any other game ive played feel like an addon. I wish every game out there had this scale of boss battles but its hard to do.

Edit: It did but still the big headed spider thing was crazy as hell & creepy as hell. The way SSM brought that thing to life was crazy ridiculous.

I hear what your saying and unfortunately I agree. It's hard at this point to get fresh ideas.

Despite the minor complaints, I enjoyed the game.

Ascension was better than 3 overall to me. it remind of gow1 and 2 ( The journey! ). Loved the puzzles! also the combat feel challenging this time and will become super exiting when you master and upgrade it.

the only thing I hated about the game was the snake level ( the whole second hour)

its funny I actually went straight to GOW1 after finishing Ascension (replay) and damn I think gow1 is the best action adventure game I ev ever played and the most epic!!!@@# its a masterpiece!!

going to return to gow2 tommorow.

Even the dumbed down graphics between 3 and ASCENSION are crazy... thanks to the Online in Ascension...even minscule things as the Orb Chests even look PS2ish. The minor things that should've looked just as good as in 3 at the least... even got dumbed down. Overall for me 3 wipes the floor with Ascension EASILY as far as quality goes. But I pretty much expected this saddly when the 1st thing we ever knew of the game was the Online...

Now I can't take your comment above seriously. lol Ascension looks better than 3. Not a huge jump but noticable.

i didn't care about your opinion about the game it self because every one will have his opinion

but lol WTF ?!
ascension wipe the floor with GOW3 gfx
what are you smoking ?! no really ?!

here from DF vs GOWA :
""Side by side with GOW3, the visual improvements are vast - we're looking at substantial boosts to lighting, physics, animation, and a radical overhaul to the visual effects pipeline.""
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
and almost every site already say it's the best looking game on consoles

from now on I won't take your comments seriously any more

God of War 2 is the best in the series
combocaster  +   513d ago
I like how in the first game you end as the God of War. I like when a game just works on his own. The cliff hanger at the end of the second and third makes me like the first one a lot more.

God of War 1 was great as well. This is how I'd rank them in terms of best to least best.

1. God of War 2
2. God of War 1
3. God of War 3
4. God of War: Chains of Olympus
5. God of War: Ghost of Sparta
6. God of War: Ascension
