Final Fantasy 7 On PS4 And Xbox 720: It Could Happen

I thought this was a PS4 and PS Vita and PS3 exclusive. I don't think it would go to the Xbox because the strongest area of Sony's consoles is in Japan where FF6 is strong. The Xbox is weak in Japan so I think that it would be a PS exclusive.

From what i remember Sony spent a lot of money in advertising the game in the west where it is published by SCEA. The success of the game came because of the publics awareness of the game cause of that intense advertising.

Correct izumo. FF7 was the first FF to be a Juggernaut, thanks to massive advertising by Sony. Whether it was released on both Xbox and PS4 won't matter. I'm sure it will sell tonnes on both.

Of course, Square Enix fully own the Final Fantasy IP and ultimately can do what they want with it. If you dig out the psone box and look at the small print you'll see Sony has no rights to the game.

But Sony did help a lot with the original. Squaresoft didn't have the facilities to publish games worldwide in 1997. They certainly helped with localisation and distribution. Maybe even some development funding.

Can any KH fans confirm if any of the FF7 characters appear in the Nintendo spinoffs? To ky knowledge all games featuring them and FF7 games in general have been released only on PS formats so far.

Anyway to summarise.. Legally it can go anywhere but so far SE have kept it PS only. Even the ps1 classic never made it to xbla. Even 8,9 and 10 remaster don't and they weren't published by Sony. Personally i think then exclusivity is more likely. And that's just about fair enough

Final Fantasy still sells fairly well outside of Japan. Game that dominate in sales in Japan, yes I agree, there is no need in it coming to the Xbox. Japan content that also sells well outside, then it makes perfect sense to offer it on other platforms like the Xbox that does well outside of Japan.

It does make sense. Why would Square release a game that was so good which only shows off how crappy the games they are putting out now are.

I understand that they want to release something awesome currently so as not just to become known for "Square only had good games in the past" but a Square that makes good games currently.

Even if they are putting out sub par games now, the fans don't see FF7 as a slap in the face to fans the way Sqares sees FF7 being a slap in the face to fans.

Square believes that it will hurt the current fan base and therefore get fewer sales of Square's next big game...

im pretty sure square has gone on record to say that an actual current gen quality remake of 7 would take them till the end of the millennium.

FFVII is a "Sony" thing.

This is one of Sony's "GOD" games, just as Halo is one of Xbox's. (I'm not taking into account first and third party talk here... games in general).

When you think of FFVII, you automatically think of "Sony". That's its home and is known for being pure Sony. It's like if the PS4 received a pokemon game. It wouldn't seem right.

If this does get a re-release, it should be where it belongs. On the PlayStation 4 ONLY. It's home.

Afaik Sony owns the publishing rights for ffvii so even if they do remake it Xbox won't get it secondly Sony is a major shareholder at square Enix so more reason for it not to come to Xbox

Mass effect 1 was also published by Microsoft and it ended up on PS3. Also, Microsoft also got a share of Bungie and Destiny somehow ended up being multiplatform. Anything is possible because Square enix still owned the IP.

However we are not aware of what deal was cut with Microsoft. Contracts are very different this gen from 2 gens ago.

Also a deal was probably struck to release ME on ps. Also by bungie had become independent of Microsoft several years ago but still supported Xbox exclusively most likely due to contractual agreements etc

So we can speculate all we want but we really have no idea what the deal was for square and sony compared to ms and bungie.

However reasonable it is that ffvii if remade would be multiplatform I have to doubt that Sony would let an IP go without something considerable in return..

Square with fxiii was supposed to be exclusive, Sony gave permission for it to go multiplatform for exchange of something. What is anyone's guess but such deals exist and in the case of ffvii I don't see a deal being struck :)

I believe you are right. I believe MS cut a deal with EA that MS could have Porsche once again in it's Forza IP's in exchange for Mas Effect 1. MS getting Porsche happened right around the same time as the announcement of a ME trilogy bundle.

Destiny didn't "somehow" become multiplatform. When Bungie was released from MS, Bungie became their own entity and multiplatform. Sure MS still has some rights to certain things but only under Bungie, and Bungie isn't working alone with the creation of Destiny. Destiny is a Bungie/Activision title. This is why we see the game multiplat instead of exclusive.

In order to have Final Fantasy 7 on any other console then a Playstation console, Sony has to be willing to release the rights to SquareEnix and allow it just like how MS released the rights of Mass Effect 1 to Bioware/EA.

MS's deal with EA was more then likely a means to get Porsche exclusive to Forza and EA IP's then anything else, but the side benefit to it was that PS3 owners were now able to experience the greatness of the ME1 game which could have only happened with MS allowing it. So MS is considering the PS gaming community....question is, would Sony be willing to consider the Xbox community?

I never played any traditional FF game( I suck at most RPGs) but if ff7 is remade it should be exclusively on a Sony platform since the original has become something of a legend on the original PS. It wouldn't look natural seeing it on another console( I'm aware of a PC version).

Hell NO FF7 on Xbox will be a major loss for Sony...If Sony loose it from exclusive ..she will have hard times to overcome Xbox in sales ...it happened with all her previous exclusives (FF13,DMC4,REseries,MonsterHun ter) and it was the major reason that Ps3 stayed behind in this gen race.......FF7=PlayStation

FF7 on xbox is not gonna happen, since Sony are the ones who published the original. I don't think it's that easy for Microsoft to get it.

Beside, I think Square-Enix are finally figuring out with KH1.5 and FF10 HD that supporting Microsoft is not a good idea.

Also, Final Fantasy versus XIII will also not see the light of day on Xbox, it's a Sony exclusive.
