HD Remakes: How much is too much?

"How much is too much?" When people stops buying them, it will be too much. It is as simple as that.

I'd rather have an HD remake of a really good game than 4-5 new crappy games that shouldn't have been made.

The problem with about 60% of newer games is they don't even attempt to learn from the past.

There's a good way to do it and also a bad way to do it... The ending of this article goes off to explain that modders can offer everything for free but I'll have to disagree with that because Devs can offer an update to the games engine which is something I haven't seen a modder do. Halo's 10th anniversary edition should be what HD remakes strive for... the MGS 1 remake for gamecube is another good example. The Splinter cell HD edition is a good example of the bad way to do it. If say Bethesda went back and did a remake of Morrowind using skyrim's engine then that would be the good way to do it.

When a certain IP is getting remastered and re-packaged in a way that ensures the there's a new game every single year.

There you go again pulling punches and mincing words. Just say it.
When you release psp remakes and ps2 remakes and then put them altogether again to cash in. God of War.

Better than no games whatsoever.

Why the negativity? Remakes give other people the chance to play great games that they never played because they were to young for that time or they missed those. And a good game deserves his place.

HD remakes are great for certain titles like Final Fantasy X, ZOE, Halo, Sly Cooper. To name just a few these titles are great to enjoy again they are cleaned up and they look better. Older titles can be expensive on ebay like Final Fantasy 7 their discs could be un playable or some of these titles are very hard to find. I cant walk into Gamestop and find a PS 1 game. Im all for HD remakes Im gonna sit down and play the hell out Final Fantasy X HD remake when it comes out. Im just a little hurt a great title like the Xenosaga franchise. Will never see an HD remake.

I don't know, I think remastering games like AoE and Baldur's Gate is a very good thing. I loved AoE to death.

It's rare for these things to sell well, the Halo CEA and God Of War ones being the exceptions. I think even if they sell 100k, they probably make money, I doubt it costs much the way most of these things are done.

Personally I've only bought a few, not really worth it to play through simply for Trophies or Achievements, but I think it's something we wont have to see next gen... thankfully.

I'll tell you when I've had enough. Another round, dammit!

Get ready for "full HD" collections of current gen games on next gen

They already exist on PC and have since they launched...unless they were exclusives.

Things like AoE, which is intriguing is a bit of scam.

It still looks like non-hd graphics. They show the before and after pictures and it's almost the same. They aren't putting in better textures or what not.

The other aspects they are adding make it probably worth it, but it's pretty scammy to allow for a 1080p res size and barely touch the gfx and say it's now HD.
