"I’ve got to start off by saying this; I’ve always hated the past Tomb Raider titles. I thought they were boring, had clunky mechanics, and very bad pacing." -Startalancenter.com
Tomb Raider I, II, III Remastered is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Lara Croft is back in a classic remaster of the original PlayStation 1 hit title. Is the remaster any good though?
We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.
For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.
I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.
Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
Like the film or television industry, the world of gaming has seen its fair share of reboots over the years. While some of these video game reboots have had
And now you have a horrible story, lifeless characters, boring hunting. But you`re satisfied, so congrats. Didn`t take much.
I was also not a fan of the previous games. I mean, I tried, but there was always something about the past games I didn't like. I think Lara or how the characters are portrayed are a little too cartoony that it was hard for me to take game a little seriously, especially when CD or even CORE tried to make it seem that way. As for this game, I really like the overall maturity of the game. I'm not saying the story was good or anything, but I think it was necessary for a change. No more boob attention, which still exists in this game, but the main attraction/distraction is vulnerability. You now care about Lara and grow strong with Lara. I'm pretty sure we will see Lara back to her sexy confident self, so only time will tell.
Was a big fan of the earlier series but only up to a point.. right after the 3rd installment - Adventures of Lara Croft, the game simply became quite repetitive and didn't progress any further.
From Chronicles right up to Underworld which is a humongous gap, Tomb Raider just couldn't keep up with oncoming new games of it's genre.
Thank goodness for Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix and in a huge part the Uncharted franchise for getting the reboot back on it's feet.
To be honest - Tomb Raider (2013) as a game, is friggen awesome. Awesome combat, story and gameplay. One of the best games this generation
BUT as a Tomb Raider game - it's rather weak. There really is no sense of exploration or Tombs or puzzles, there are Tombs but very limited
This was a big strength with Tomb Raider Underworld, unfortunately for that game, the combat was its weak point.
So which direction would I want to see in the next Tomb Raider?
The same awesome combat and gameplay you see in the latest Tomb Raider, but with the exploration and puzzles you see in games like Underworld.
square Enix are on a serious mission to refine and build upon old games we know and love without messing it up.
