HonestGamers Review // Gears of War: Judgment

Mike Suskie Writes: Judgment is uneventful. It is a succession of disconnected rooms in which unremarkable firefights take place. We never even see our team moving from one area to the next; when a mission ends, we push a button, look over our scorecard, push another button, sit through a load screen, and find ourselves in the next area. (Gears of War Judgment, Xbox 360) 5/10

This game is should be higher than a 5, but it is getting stale. I do like the added multiplayer and class perks. But other than that it is just Gears all over again.

There needs to be a serious shake up, not extreme drastic but something that can breath some new life into this.

Or maybe let this series rest for 2 or 3 years until the fan base is screaming from the top hemisphere for a new Gears.

The problem is differentiating this from the other Gears games. As a traditional "Gears of War" game it deserves many of its lower review scores compared to original trilogy (5 is bit low imo though--I can see 7-8s much easier).

If you can instead see it as its own game that just happens to be very Gearsish its more 8-9 though as it is fun and plays relatively well but I have a few complaints here and there specific toJudgement. My biggest problem is flow simply due to arcade competitive nature of its campaign as its fun and hectic but each chapter breaks immersion so on a storytelling front its weak by design.

Its Gears and yet it isnt so more niche and will put some off while being fun for others.

I have to say I prefer others but still having fun. It probably wont have same longevity for me though. Hopefully Unreal will return with a "real" Gears later on.

So this and god of war both recieve 5/10 reviews? I find it hard to belive the developers of each franchise would put out mediocre games. You may not like the franchise but I doubt its a 5/10.

the games themselves
are not mediocre by any means. Its the reviewers POV that gives the mediocre impression.

Like any game, it all comes down to the fans more so than the newcomers to the series.

some say the formula is getting stale but then you will have games where the formula never changes and those games are all the rage.

It just goes to prove you cant please everyone. These games please me so that's what matters most (to me).

I'll take this review about as seriously as my farts

Truth is this Gears is served up differently. I personally like the intensity of campaign combat in Gears more than the pauses in between these, so this sounds refreshing until the next full on next gen experience. It sounds like if you treat this as a more action oriented version then you shouldn't come out disappointed. Viewed for what it is then, 5/10 doesn't sound very accurate

i loved previous gears games, but i just dont enjoy judgment.

the cutsene at the start of the original gears was so foreboding dark and moody, it showed society being dominated and wiped out but a force that seemed unstoppable, but in judgment its just like oh hey look locust lets kill em.

wheres the gritty almost horror like aspects of gears gone? this is meant to be based round E day, how could they get it so wrong?
instead gears has turned in to a cartoony bore-fest, damn shame.
