latest issue of GamesMaster UK magazine features Bioshock: Infinite review.
This generations best game, it will have to be spectacular to beat the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, Red Dead Redemption or Assassins Creed 2 and Uncharted 2.
How could you forget Journey?
Everyone's list of what's best is their own, though Journey would be on my list as well. I haven't played the new Bioshock yet, but I don't see it passing either Demon's Souls or Dark Souls, which are my #1 and #2 favorite games this gen. The first Bioshock is definitely on my Best of Gen list somewhere though, so I'm sure this new one will be too, just not at #1 most likely.
No one can even think about that list until The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls are out.
Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are this generation best game
Simply put... yes, and i haven't even played it.
The original BioShock was categorically as good as all of those games, if not better. Infinite 1ups it in pretty much every aspect.
It's also more ambitious than every single one of those games.
Bioshock had a good setting, nice designs / charming style and an amazing story, but it had plenty of problems. Also even if Bioshock Infinite is "better" in every aspect, we've seen PLENTY of examples where amazing games got technically better sequels, yet they're still hold in lower regard. I think Bioshock Infinite will be a good game, perhaps a great game, but best game this generation... that's pushing it.
"but it had plenty of problems" Plenty? Please name these "plenty" amount of problems. I've only ever heard three criticisms about the game, and they were all subjective personal nit picky gripes. I've heard people don't like the last boss. I did quite a bit and don't see a problem with it. It's certainly better than most bosses today, in that you actually have to fight it to beat it rather than go through some stupid quick time event. I've heard some people claim it's "boring", but if you think Bioshock is boring, it's far more likely that it's just not your type of game, which isn't the fault of the game itself. And the last one, is I've heard the twist is similar to System Shock 2. Well not a lot of people have played System Shock 2, and not a lot of people CAN play System Shock 2, since you need to go through several hoops to get it to run on an even remotely modern operating system. Even if it is similar and could be played by everyone, it's still old as hell, and Bioshock is new and beautiful, even still today. Bioshock is my personal favorite game of this generation. I think it's far better than something like Uncharted. If Bioshock Infinite is even a tiny bit better than the first Bioshock (in terms of its impact it had on me), then it will definitely be this generations greatest game to me.
@ Vickers500 I can give you a list, but I won't. Ultimately in my opinion I didn't think the game was perfect and giving you a list would just result in a semantic argument about how our opinions are different. Maybe you want to tell me how to think, but I rather not argue about how I should view things.
Then why post at all if you're not willing to discuss? If you gave me some reasons, I wouldn't immediately say you're wrong (unless you were factually/objectively wrong), but I'd probably say something that might get you to see something in a different way, or you might say something that makes me see it in a different way, things neither of us might not have thought of before. But if you're totally unwilling to converse with people on this site, then please don't post at all. If you're not willing to have a discussion, then I don't see the point of posting your opinion at all, unless you think it's so important and superior that everyone needs to know it.
"Simply put... yes, and i haven't even played it." What a ridiculous answer. Some will think it's the greatest game, some won't, but the only people who can have a valid opinion are the ones who have played it.
Exactly. And to call this the greatest game of this generation...talk about over hyping a game! It's that same hype that will make gamers expect more than what the game has to offer and...might disappoint several people. There are several games that are the "best" of this generation...but I can't name just 1 single game that defined this generation. Journey, ni no Kuni, Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, Tomb Raider, Deus ex...Those are just the most recent ones! Too many good games!
I knew I would get reactions like this when I posted that. It's ridculous to suggest sure, but then I wouldn't have expected the original BioShock to have the impact on me that it did when I first played it. I've been following every scrap and morsel of information about this game since it was announced as Project Icarus and believe me, this game is more ambitious and innovative not just in gameplay systems, but driving active storytelling in gaming to a place that most people aren't even expecting. I think the people that say "Bioshock Infinite will be a good game, perhaps a great game" (as demonstrated above), are the ones who know barely anything about the game's background, its development and Irrational's culture as a studio and the BioShock formula. I don't have to have played the game to know the stellar vision Ken Levine embraces when he makes a game with practically zero compromises in artistic vision. Just have a look into how much painstaking craft and ingenuity went into creating Elizabeth - a character who is not just a companion AI but an affecting person who shapes the experience. They could've gone down the safe route in so many ways (including censoring the political, racial and religious themes tackled) but like I said, no compromise. Heck, maybe BioShock isn't everyone's type of game and some people might scoff at FPS, but on a technical level and as far as ambition, innovation, depth and quality of active narrative go, BioShock Infinite - I believe - will be the best game of this generation. I will probably tell you the same thing once I've played it next week, and I might not be correct on my points after I do, but I'm not expecting very much disappointment from a creative director with the integrity of Levine.
That's a pretty big throne to claim. There are so many other games that it would have to contend with: The Batman Arkham series, Skyrim, Tomb Raider (2013), BF3, GTA 4, Halo 4, MGS 4, Dead Space 1 & 2, Red Dead Redemption, The Uncharted series, Infamous 1 & 2, GoW 3, Bioshock 1, etc. (I'm not a big Nintendo player, so I didn't name any) I'm certain that it will be an AMAZING game, but it has some stiff competition...
and we still have the last of us and beyond and GTAV on the way
It'll probably be a great game but far from the greatest if the other Bioshock games are anything to go by, although I suppose how good games are is completely opinion based.
Lol no, Angry Birds FTW
It's called sarcasm. Look it up sometime.
It's difficult enough to name the best game in a generation for ONE console, let alone to even begin a coherent argument or sweeping statement that one game rules all. Different gamers like different genres. Hell, even if the original bioshock had have been on wii, nintendo gamers still most likely would have preferred mario or metroid. I mean, if bioshock was only judged on its fps merits then it wasn't a great one, but coupled with the plasmids, characters, beautiful game world and most importantly the amazing narrative pacing, then yes it was an amazing game and still holds its own today. The "thinking man's shooter"?
I would love to think that question is indicative of their actual opinion of this game but if n4g has taught me anything it's that question marks allow for any attention grabbing title imaginable. Title - Sony to hunt down and kill all ps plus subscribers? Article - no, ps plus is a fine service and Sony treat their customers well. Title - Will the next Halo game be WiiU exclusive? Article - while it's unlikely that the WiiU will ever get an exclusive Halo game we can't help but wonder what the fans would do if this happened. And so on and so on.
it could be the greatest game ever made but I still wont be buying it, bioshock 1 got boring towards the end, bioshock 2 was boring from the start with a tacked on crappy multiplayer, but that's just my opinion.
Since no one here has played it and the overall gaming community wouldn't be able to form an opinion on it yet... no.
Yet, another shooter. I did like Bioshock 1, but after that all these games all start to seem the same. Dont we already have enough of these type of games? Every damn game seems the same, its getting so old im finding myself going back to old school arcade games! New ideas already!
Pre-ordered and I'm getting more and more excited :D
Demon`s Souls. Go to bed kids.
