Destructoid Review: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

"Don't open, dead inside"

"Merlenderl, in a game, what can be better than that?" mumbled The Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker, in a voice that betrayed a man who could easily recall a dozen things better than Survival Instinct." (PC, PS3, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, Wii U, Xbox 360) 2/10

It goes to aliens as it actually at one point looked good, this NEVER looked any good at all and being a directly licensed game it was doomed to be terrible.

You would think with DayZ stand alone on the horizon most devs who do zombie based games would really be pushing the concept to its limits given how popular even a broken modded concept of a great game could be.

Licensed material tends to have a bad reputation already, and deservedly so in most instances. We actually get a great licensed game with Telltale's Walking Dead game that bucks that negative trend, and via a lower budget design with a focus on great storytelling that won several GOTY awards, but Activision can't help themselves to try to cash in on The Walking Dead with a pile of garbage.

We have text book examples of how you should and should not handle a popular licensed material here.

not many good examples though. properly handled licenses in no particular order......

1. batman arkhum series
2. telltales walking dead
3. alladin ( snes )
4. the lion king ( snes )
5. goldeneye ( N64 )
6. star wars knights of the old republic ( xbox/pc )
7. a small handful of the spiderman games

im sure im missing a couple decent ones but not much lol the fact that this list is so short over several generations of consoles is just sad

I don't think the terrible reviews are surprising anybody who saw the preview of this game a couple of months ago. Despite the developers assertions, it hasn't improved much since that preview... Just watch the Youtube vids, it's like an alpha build, Activision should be ashamed of themselves.

See, now why don't you give this score to all CODs?

This game is a complete steaming disaster, i have seen some broken games, but this is something else, "daryl and merle in a game, what could be beter than that"? - well mostly everything under the sun actually. I am finished with cashdivision.
