Starting from the beginning of the game you’re put on the character of Deryl’s dad on a hunting trip. However, the gameplay and controls soon start ruining the fun as there is no intro, you just “spawn” with no control instructions.
But if you are an FPS player, you soon realize the control. However, for example, if you want to open the inventory you have to consult the options.
You change characters to your main one, Daryl (makes me believe they chose him to compensate for the rest of the game), which you’ll be playing for the rest of the game.
