Assassin’s Creed sure could learn a lot from Shenmue‏

Liam Pritchard of Brash Games writes "4 months from now, chances are, I will have forgotten the majority of Assassin’s Creed III with its problems more likely to remain fresh in the memory than its positives. Shenmue though? Well, 13 years on and I’ll still regale just about anybody willing to list listen on the games’ many, many virtues. Above all else, it would be the believability of its game world and its host of memorable characters".

How many open world games have truly captured that feel Shenmue gave. You seriously felt like everyone was living in the worlds. Dammit I miss Shenmue.

I agree 100 percent with you! I'm actually replaying through Shenmue 1 and 2 again and man I just love this game!
Many games, not just Assassins Creed can learn something from Shenmue!
Great storying telling, great adventure, great characters, great graphics (at the time).

The best thing Ubi can do with the Assassins Creed series right now is give it a bit of a break. I hope they don't take the Assassins Creed approach with Watch Dogs if its successful.

Really want a remake of the series... it should be significantly easier to create now then it was when it first was make

remake? Damn game was way ahead of its time when it was released and it has aged pretty well.

Cueil1285d ago

wow... to much alcohol I though I proofread that to :-p

I want it to be done up to current day standards. It does hold it's own well enough, but it was ahead of it's time and there were limitations. I want the game to flow and for it to do that you need it to start from the beginning.

I miss Shenmue with Sega releasing other Dreamcast titles on PSN and XBL I was hoping to see Shenmue 1&2 on both PSN and XBL.

Xbox version of Shenmue 2 is BC on 360... it's not great, but it's a consolation prize I guess :-(

I'm glad someone came forward and said this I been waiting almost 15 yrs for shenmue 3 and I won't give up hope but todays open workd games are sweet skyrim far cry 3 and many more but they still lack soul. I remember randomly knocking on strangers front doors and asking them questions about my mission and some would bitch me out saying its late and some would actually give me directions. Also remember spending hrs just practicing my kung fu even though I haven't got a shot at LAN Di the guy who killed ryo 's father . Shenmue was ahead of its time and in many ways still ahead of our current games .That us just the tip of the iceburg I have high hopes for next gen I want more games like shenmue and more replay value in our single player games

Shenmue was amazing and I agree with most comments, that the game felt that way because of how alive everything felt within the game.

I honestly haven't felt as immersed in game as I have in Shenmue, prob the closest game was Journey.

That game really was a Shenmue of this generation IMO....not really a gameplay successor but an immersion successor definitely. I truly felt like I was battling for my life near the end, and felt connected with my partner.

Anyways, I completely lost fate in Shenmue 3, all I want to see is 1 + 2 HD, and I'll be happy.

Also for those that like shenmue I'd give sleeping dogs and Yakuza.

They both have a little bit of Shenmue in them, but you will not be as immersed imo.

Things that break the immersion or feeel different than shenmue for the games are:

Sleeping Dogs: Difference is the way the game play's and potrays itself, it lacks the attention to detail Shenmue has, the story and the uniqueness in character models.

Yakuza: It really completely breaks immersion because of the lack voice during gameplay. Most of the voice acting is kept for scripted Story telling, all NPCs are silent beeping and text typers:P

Anywho,

Hope to see Shenmue 1+2 HD. Want it on PC/PS3 and PS vita:)
