IGN - PSone and PS2 Classics, as well as Minis and older PS3 games, don't have Trophies. Sony's new patent would allow that problem to be rectified. We explore the possibilities.
Man... I hope they're not blowing smoke about this patent. It would be amazing to have trophies for FF VII, and Resistance Fall of Man would be begging for another play through.
I just played through Resistance:FOM on christmas. Split-screen co-oped it with a couch buddy lol, still as fun as ever. I'm really hoping Sony keep Resistance1 in mind if this patent moves forward. If Heavenly Sword and Assassin's Creed would get trophy support aswell,,, then i would be one happy blonde.
Resistance Fall of Man needs trophies !
Than I should stop playing classics or old ps3 games until this feature is implemented.
Metal Gear Solid 4 anyone?
..? It already has trophies. Am I misunderstanding what you're saying?
I literally was going to write that exact same sentence.
When he reads this reply, his embarrassment will be 100% undertaken by his happiness. Lol
/\ This guy gets it. Sorry guys, I guess I'm not as in the loop as I used to be :(
Great incentive to play old games again. My trophies level 11.
I'm guessing Sony also use this to making sure you actually earned the trophies you have. I've seen a few dubious trophy list's with 100%'s. A lot of them had time stamps that didn't match up. Who knows maybe this has something to do with ps4 & Gaikai, ps3 or both.
They need a patent to do that?
You need a patent to do anything in corporate land.
You'd be surprised how broken the patent system is. Sometimes you need a patent just so you can operate under on your own principle.
Damned lawyers make it so.
Apple has a patent on the angular appearance of the corners around not only the square app icons in their GUI, but the shape of their iPad itself. Patent...on a shape. Yea.
And thats how samsung got pwned .... whose next? I wish I could of patented the 'circle'and 'square' shape.
It would make sense if Sony are planning to make their entire library of games stream able through Gaikai. Colour me intrigued!
Give me Heavenly Sword trophies and I'll be a happy camper
So we'll get generic Trophy names then? I actually like the titles of trophies the developers put in their games.
Stop crying, at least were getting something. Damn, u introduce an idea to people and they cry for more. Better this than to have no trophies.
No, im not saying this a bad thing or such, just that i like trophies when developers put cool names. Like in God of War 1 on PS3, i kept dying from this underwater part because of this frustrating machinery and i got the Getting My Ass Kicked Trophy. Small stuff like that.
Not really. Someone still has to actually create the list explaining how to obtain each trophy. What this basically means is it would be far easier for developers to add trophies to a game, since the actual game doesn't need to be edited.
I hope its something like that :D
It's really a great idea and it makes me excited about playing through my old games.
MGS1 trophies hell yeah!
Condemned 2! Fatal frame!
Maybe this will apply to games played through Gaikai
Tenchu Mgs 1 Final fantasy games Etc... Think of all the posibilities! Even ps2 games too! Like Persona 3, Disgaea, GTA games, etc. I never cared for trophies, hell, after 4 yearz I only have 1 platinum (yet I have 100+ games). But being to platinum older games excites me since older games ACTUALLY provided a REAL challenge. No regen health, cover system, ccheckpoints and other hand-holding crap. These games were tough and had ballz of steal!
true but the real classics that were ball busters were NES games not ps1 games. They were unforgiving... before you start spaming 200 disagrees think about it. Well for us older gamers anyway. Anyway this is great news legend of the dragoon trophy support plz.
I see this as an extra protection for when trophy's will actualy start to be worth some type of credit for use in the store.
You're doing great Sony, Nice idea.
Patent does not mean it's going to happen. Sony has shit tons off patents they never use(like the one they've had for blocking used games since the PS2)
